I bought this brilliant meter to monitor the leisure battery in our motorhome. When turning on various appliances in the motorhome you can see exactly how much power it uses. It also keeps a running total of the amount of watt hours used.
It can only measure current taken from the battery and can not show charging currents i.e. from a solar panel the display shows 0 amps. I have our meter mounted about 4 metres away from the battery without problems. Beware where you place the meter high up is best for a clear crisp display, if you look at the meter straight on or slightly from the top the text on the screen is not clear. this is due to the limited viewing angle range for the LCD.

low cost and accurate

We needed this power/energy meter for an electric bicycle generator being made in our Engineering Department. This uses a standard 45A Lucas car alternator attached to an exercise bike. The max rating of the power meter - 100A is far in excess of what we will be getting but it is working very well for this application. Currently we have not exceeded 120W (10A) but the accuracy of the voltage, current and power measurement are perfect for our application and we are confident it will work satisfactorily up to our maximum of about 300W

These work a treat. Wired up on my boat to monitor power usage out of my batteries. You do need two of these units to monitor current in and out (one for in and one for out) but can be wired up to the same shunt.

Some users have queried the apparent inability of the device to show a 'negative' current flow (i.e. if charging a mobile leisure battery). This can be overcome by means of adding a double-pole, single-throw switch to the current sense connections coming from the shunt element. Just wire it as a 'cross-connected polarity change-over' (a miniature switch is fine as it's not carrying current, only a small sense voltage of 75mV/100A). OK, it's a bit of a kludge but so are most work-arounds ... and for those who think it might add an inaccuracy to the voltage reading, any error is so small it falls outside of the display's resolution. I've got two of these in my caravan - the first monitors the inboard leisure battery, the second monitors an outboard 'battery plus mains inverter' system that is recharged by means of a solar panel or an umbilical feed from my towing vehicle's electrical system (the switched one that only activates when the engine/alternator is running). Definitely "Hosentrager" as our .de friends would say 😉

Great fror monitoring the current usage

I already have a 12V solar power system but I had the opportunity to pick up some 24V batteries from the office where the server UPS boxes were being updated. Using these as a 24v battery bank, I built a second solar power system as a fun project to run just the LED lighting in my Garage / Workshop. I still use the 12V system to run the Inverter for the power tools that require 240V. One problem with a 24V system was that I needed to convert the voltage to 12V for my existing LED lights. For this, I bought a 24V to 12V converter (from Amazon) rated at 30 Amps but wanted to monitor exactly how much current it was drawing so I could be sure the 30 Amp limit was not being exceeded. This is where the e MICTUNING Digital Meter with shunt comes in. I have mounted this in the front panel of a 400mm deep Patress box which I carefully cut out to suit. This is now attached to the 12V solar board with the shunt installed just below it using a couple of DIY brackets. This is working a treat for me. I would recommend this meter to anyone who wants to monitor their power usage in a similar way, but please be sure to connect the shunt and the meter exactly as documented or else you will end up with a dead meter ! Hope this helps.
