Firstly, I never though writing anything from Beth's POV was necessary. Apparently a lot of Shay's fans wanted it, so she did it. I was therefore expecting something a bit - more...
The story seemed to have been written in bits and I felt it didn't flow and thoughts were repeated from chapter to chapter. The writing was of course excellent and you really get into Beth's head space. Unfortunately I didn't find out anything I didn't already know or guess from the original book. This novella was just a very short, rehash of random scenes, although in the correct time-line and from Beth's POV. I liked that I could finally picture Edh a bit better, which is probably all I got out of this companion story.
Do I regret buying this novella? No of course not. Was I a bit disappointed - yes. I was expecting something a lot longer when it was first announced the book had been written, although I knew the length before I purchased it. The last 25% was blurb for her other books however.
Everything above said, I enjoyed reading this little story and actually didn't move, or put it down until I finished it. 🙂 I was going to re-read Transcendence before reading this, but I didn't. I am now going to read it again anyway, and now I really want to as it's been 4 years! By the way, don't read "Luffs" before Transcendence!!! It's NOT a stand alone.

Sadly, Luffs is a very big disappointment. The narrative is clunky and rushed, it feels like the author is trying to get it written and done as soon as possible!! It jumps around in time with very little flow and has none of the humour and heart of Transcendence. The chapters cover none of the key areas that so many people were wanting to hear Elizabeth's POV on which is very disappointing also. The ending is far too abrupt and leaves you feeling like you took nothing away from the book at all.
I suspect that this book was written more to appease (and quiet!) the fans who have been begging for it, rather than the author truly wanting to revisit these characters and sadly that comes across loud and clear. The beauty of Transcendence is that the author builds a beautiful world that you can become immersed in whilst you folld Ehd and Behs journey. That's completely lacking with Luffs. It's a great shame as this could have been a wonderful companion novella with so much potential.
If someone is reading this review having read Transcendence, not sure whether to purchase this book also, I would have to recommend they not bother. The ending of Transcendence is perfect and honestly, Luffs adds nothing more to the story which is a great shame, it answers none of the questions we were all asking. Also, for the scant 9 chapters (very short ones at that!!) it is very expensive for what it is.
I was expecting so much more from an author who's work I have never failed to enjoy before.
If it had been 99p, I could have forgiven a lot and just enjoyed the collection of random snippets but for what it cost?! A complete waste of time.
Let’s just say it’s a good job Ehd can’t talk , as I don’t think he would like the vacuous, ‘snickering ‘ Beh.
Just don’t bother .
