This is a story of how Marie and her sons lost the love of their life. Husband and Father Rob. It is heart breaking and joyous to see how Marie copes with life after the loss of her husband and love of her life. I highly recommend this book. Because there is life after loss and you can still love life. She even includes a what not to say. Which is brilliant because I’m one of those people who put their foot in their mouth without meaning too so now I know what to stay away from when chatting to people.
This book is full of serendipitous moments; magical events unfolding through grief and love. The message is simple but powerful: the loss of a loved one might be impossible to overcome; but one can learn to turn grief into hope.
As this book demonstrates, grief can bring about unimaginable opportunities for self-growth, which not only benefit those who are grieving, but can also reach an entire community. Thanks to this book, many readers who are struggling with grief will find hope and beauty in the process of coming to terms to the sense of emptiness our loved ones leave behind once their lives on this earth comes to an end.
This inspiring book will give you tears of joy and sorrow in equal doses, so be prepared: you’ll cry and laugh with the author from one paragraph to the next. In my opinion, this beautiful sentence captures the spirit of the book “We sit in circle, in the middle of the big hole that Rob has left behind...” The emptiness is there, but so is the strength of one mother and two children being there for each other, starting a new chapter of unconditional love.
I loved the title of this little book before I opened it. It is a beautiful and engaging love story. Marie Alessi's description of the moment she heard of her husband Rob's passing and the subsequent days and weeks after his death took me back to the passing of my own child many years ago. The raw grief she describes is real and at times gut wrenching. But although it is a book about grief it is also a book about hope. She speaks about her decision to make that conscious choice each day to keep Rob's 'spirit and memories alive with every single choice of love and happiness.' It is a story to encourage and inspire those who experience the sudden death of a loved one way too soon.
