Product description

Product Description

In a matter of seconds my entire world changed, and it was in that moment that I stopped living and simply began to exist.

In my grief, I sent a letter to the first boy I ever loved. I hoped in writing it I’d find some peace from the nightmare I was living, some solace in my anger.

I didn’t expect him to write back. I wasn’t prepared for his words, and I certainly wasn’t ready for the impact this soldier would have on my life. A deep-rooted hate transformed into friendship, and then molded into a love like I’d never known before.

Sergeant Devin Ulysses Clay did what I couldn’t: he put the shattered pieces of my heart back together, restoring my faith in humanity and teaching me how to live again.

But now that I’m whole, I have a decision to make. Do I return to my life as I knew it and the fiancé I left behind, or do I walk away from it all for the only man to ever break my heart?

***

I’ve been living in hell, but you won’t hear me complain.

These men depend on me, as I do them, and this brotherhood is the only family I’ve ever known.

The Army saved me from a callous mother and a life on the wrong side of the tracks that was quickly spiraling out of control. So unlike most of the men in my platoon, going home wasn’t something I longed for.

I was content overseas, spending my days defending this country that gave me my life back. Fighting became my new normal … until her.

A letter from Katie Devora—a letter that I almost didn’t open. Her words put a fire back inside of me that I didn’t know I’d lost. She gave me hope during a time when I was fighting every day just to stay alive, and now it’s time I fight for her.

I enjoyed this book which such an amazing insight into life at war.
I felt it started off a little slow but picked and there were many different events that took you on a roller coaster ride of emotions.
The ending was very cleverly designed.

Devin, in A Lover's Lament by K.L. Grayson and BT Urruela grew up without any brothers, but found some in the army. When we first meet him (after the prologue ten years before) they're his life and his lifeline. His reason for doing what he does, and his way (however imperfect) of coping with the harsh realities of active service.

Then comes a letter from Katie, the girl he thought he left behind 10 years before, setting up a chain of correspondence, and ultimately a chain of events that changes both of their lives.

Whenever I read a book that's been co-written I always wonder how the process of co-writing a book will affect the writing style. Will the prose be disjointed? Will it be blindingly obvious that one author wrote this section and another wrote that? Most times that's not the case, but in this book rather than it simply being 'not the case' I was blown away with how flawless the prose was.

From the first page, the writing style was effortless and captivating. The story was thoughtful and satisfyingly complex, and the characters engaging.

Almost from the very start I found myself wanting these two to get together. It wasn't so much a case of if or when, but just how. Just keep turning the pages to see how each can help the other to grow and heal, and ultimately reconnect.

I had heard good things about this book from people whose opinions I respect before going in, but I wasn't prepared for just how good it was going to be.

Absolutely amazing.

Excellent. This is the first book I've read from this author, and I'm really impressed. Great plot, wonderful well thought out character development. I won't write a synopsis of the story, that's not required. All you need to know is that it is well worth the investment of both time and money. The story holds your attention as the two main protagonists journey back to each other, and deal with events that are thrown at them. There are no distracting editing/grammar errors, and the sex scenes are hot, believable & not just porn as so many authors seem to write. I'd like to see stories for the supporting characters, Navas, Bailey, Wyatt. Even perhaps, Katie's best friend, Maggie. Thanks for the enjoyable read.

One word...WOW! I downloaded a sample. After reading it, I bought the book and read it the same day. I am glad I did!
I didn't quite know what to expect. Especially since there are two authors. I was worried that the story would be choppy and uneven in places. But that wasn't the case. It flowed seamlessly.

The development of the story was heartbreaking, yet heartwarming at the same time. Such difficult subjects such as love lost, death and survivors guilt were dealt with such realism yet delicacy at the same time. It was painfully real and I was crying quite a few times throughout the book. I liked getting to know the characters and watching them grow. When loss was experienced by the characters, I experienced it too. It was beautiful yet at times, painful to read.

The secondary characters were wonderful and gave the h and H such a fantastic support network. I won't rehash the plot, or provide spoilers. Please take a chance and read this little gem of a story.

Everything about this book worked for me, the writing, the story, the characters, the passion, and I just loved reading the letters, then the emails, then the phone calls and the one hilarious scene with the video call. My favourite were those first few letters though, they just said everything! The story follows best friends Katie and Devin, as they move from friends to lovers, and just as they find that one true moment in their relationship everything is ripped away. Fast forward 10 years and tragedy brings them together in the most unexpected way. A true second chance romance that had me rooting for their HEA, I Laughed, I cried and Iike Katie, I prayed.
I was provided with a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and honestly, I give it a full five heart stopping stars, I was hooked from the first chapter.

*A Lover’s Lament by KL Grayson & BT Urruela is a second chance romance wrapped in the exploration of different types of grief. It is told from dual points of view on their friendship, their love, their being apart and their grief that brings them back together. Katie and Devin’s story is an emotional read that has gasp moments and tears for the reader.
It is an amazing read that gives you a look inside of a military deployment and the gritty life these brothers-in-arm live. Thanks to BT Urruela’s willingness to start his writing career with this very personal look from his military background. I look forward to KL Grayson & BT Urruela’s next story in this series.

Thanks KL Grayson & BT Urruela & Good Writing

WOW !! What a fantastic second chance Love story. Getting to read the relationship unfold through letters, email etc was fantastic. Best part that I enjoyed was hearing a soldiers point of view warts and all. All too often it is just glazed over. This time everything wasn't fairy tale ending, there were wounds, physically and emotionally. I cannot wait for the next collaboration between K.L. Grayson & BT Urruela.
