Product Description

Bluestocking Lady Elise Smith is a very content spinster. She holds intellectual gatherings and attends poetry readings, mind-improving lectures, and art shows. She runs her father’s household with quiet and determine efficiency, which is why she is absolutely stunned when Papa informs his three daughters that until Lady Elise is happily settled with—gasp—a husband, he will not consider offers for his two younger daughters.

Lord Simon St. George has happily watched one friend after another become leg-shackled, taking pride in the fact that his title is secured by a brother and nephew, so there is no reason to seek a wife for himself. When he sees a woman previously unknown to him at a ball, who seems to be hiding from the rest of the attendees, he is intrigued enough to introduce himself.

Simon sees a lovely, intelligent woman to pass the time with, Elise sees a man who can help her thwart her father by pretending they are courting. But even the best plans can go awry…

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Regency Romance! 24 March 2017

I laughed a lot during my reading of this darling romance. The heroine (Elise), the oldest daughter of a widowed father with monetary problems who decides he MUST marry his three daughters off to lighten his load, is an independent miss who dislikes the frivolous life of the ton and decides she will NOT marry despite her father’s wishes. The hero (Simon), who has also shown disdain for the ton’s activities and has no desire to marry, meets Elise and all of a sudden their game changes and the sparks fly. Elise’s father sees their interest in each other and decides to nudge the two so that they will marry. Oh the hijinks of all the family members that ensue make for a lively, lovely romance. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars For the Love of a Good Story 24 March 2017

Lady Elise Smith is being blackmailed by her father. She has been adamant about not marrying so her father has decided that his 3 daughters would wed by birth order. That means that Elise's 2 younger sisters won't be able to marry until Elise does. She is a bluestocking who is opposed to marrying and losing her independence. When she meets Lord Simon, Viscount St George she makes a deal with him. He will pretend to court her for the season and then cry off at the end - she will then let her father know that she is unmarriagable and he will forget his plan. On her side, she will protect him from all the marriage minded mamas of the ton.
That plan last through the end of their first dance and they find they get along better than anyone would have imagined. While they were secretly falling in love with each other they managed to keep to their deal until Elise decided she wanted to know what she would be missing. After making love, Simon insists that they marry. He wasn't doing it to be honorable but because he knew he couldn't live without her.
Callie Hutton has created an amazing cast of characters with strong personalities. These are people you would love to meet and be friends with. Watching Elise There were some initial problems with downloading the book that Ms Hutton rectified personally. If you had problems downloading and decided to give up on this book you will be missing a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginning For a New Series 23 March 2017

Lady Elise Smith doesn’t want to lose her independence. Lord Simon St. George doesn’t want to lose his heart. Neither of them wants to marry – ever. Elise is intelligent, outspoken, and lovely. Simon is handsome, caring, and quite sought after. Father has decided it is time for Elise to marry, so off she goes to a ball to try not to find a husband. She and Simon meet and agree to fake a friendship/courtship to ward off Papa and Society Debs. The ploy might have worked except that Papa caught on and set his own plan in motion. It’s quite a contest of wills. Who wins?

For the Love of the Viscount is a happy story. The main characters are likeable, even though Elise can be somewhat stubborn. The secondary characters are quite engaging, especially Elise’s Papa. He is funny, loving, and determined to have his way (I think Elise may have inherited her stubborn streak from him). The plot is sweet and simple. This is a great beginning for a new series. I always enjoy Callie’s books, and I recommend this one.

(You really don’t miss the Pall Mall game.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly fun and enjoyable! 28 March 2017

This was my first Callie Huttok book, and won't be my last. I really loved this book. There's a good mixture of romance between Elise and Simon, humor, and everything else to make it a winning story in my eyes.

If you like strong, independent heroines, then you'll really like Elise. She's a blue stocking with ideas/plans to not marry and loves her freedom. And then there's Simon. He is avoiding marriage because of his past, but he is a good-natured, funny, protective guy who is perfect for Elise. The friendship starts first between them and eventually escalates into much more. Seeing the transition from friends to lovers who wanted to marry was very enjoyable and satisfying, full of little moments between them.

And besides the engaging couple, the secondary cast of characters was excellent! And hilarious. Lady Elise may have plans, but it is only because she comes from a line of devious planners, with her father and sisters all taking turns at trying to change the course of Elise's love life. It was all well-intentioned and funny to behold.

Overall, I really liked the story and highly recommend it if you're looking for a shorter Regency romance, with some moments of humor thrown in. It was paced well and moved quickly, so I was sad that there were a few noticeable grammar typos throughout the story. That was my only complaint, besides not being longer. Definitely check it out!
