Product description

Product Description

Every love story is important, whether it ends in a happy-ever-after or tragedy, because two people shared something so special that it made them value each other’s life more than their own. I know this is true because my life with Salvatore Santini was a beautiful love story…

One that ended far too soon.

But I would rather live for only one day with him, than suffer a lifetime without him. Being with Salvatore was worth a thousand deaths. Through him, I experienced heaven on earth, something very few people find. So don’t cry for me, I was truly happy. But if you can’t stop your tears, save them for Salvatore…

The one I left behind.

Please Note: The Five Families series is a collection of standalone novels and novellas centered around different members of ruling mafia families on a famous island off the southern coast of Italy.

*Salvatore is also in another series called The Santini Brothers.

I knew how Salvatore & Rosa's love story ended & I'll admit I let this book sit in my library for a few weeks before I got up the nerve to read it. After Brando. Sorry, Brando comes first for me. Anyway, back to Salvatore & Rosa....I loved their entire story, childhood best friends...actually they were each other's ONLY HS husband & wife...then parents. Their journey to parenthood was heartbreaking & to me, the reader, when they finally had a baby it was bittersweet because I knew she wouldn't be there to watch them grow up. Sorry, I should've put a SPOILER ALERT before that sentence. This is a hard review to write because I don't want to scare away anyone who is reading this as a standalone....I went into this book knowing exactly what was going to happen. But, I still loved every bit of it. Any newcomers....I would suggest you read Ricardo (The Santini Brothers Book 1) first so you'll better understand this book. There is just something special about Salvatore & Rosa, I guess because it's so rare to find such complete & absolute love & devotion between a couple for so many years. I'm going to end this review with a plea to the the end of this book I read that Salvatore will be getting his own POV book that takes place 6wks after Rosa's death. Please, please....don't pair him up with Menna or anyone immediately. Even Rosa thought he'd mourn a few he should. I guess it would just feel wrong to read about him with someone other than Rosa. Marita Hansen, you should take that as a compliment....that you made me feel so much for them that I'd never be able to see them with anyone but each other. Anyway, great story.....glad I read it.

I originally put off reading this book because I wasn't too sure I was interested in a post mortem look back at Salvatore and Rosa's life. I'm glad I decided to read it. This is an extremely beautiful, well written love story. Love stories like this feel so rare today - best friends from 10 years old, different social circles, fighting for their love against their families and naysayers. I love how Rosa was kind and sweet but a bit of a spitfire and how Salvatore was mafia, but so gentle and loving with Rosa. You truly felt that Salvatore and Rosa were everything to each other, and that this book was a celebration of their love. It will be interesting to see how Salvatore moves on from this. 4.5*
4.0 out of 5 stars good story 8 May 2015

This was a good story that kept my attention. The characters and plot were interesting. Salvatore was a hothead, blowing hot and cold with the heroine. She had to put up with a lot but it was ok with her because she loved him. I was happy that Salvatore was faithful to her. There were no OW after they became a couple, which happened when they were relatively young. The smexy times were decent. A few of the parts of the story bothered me including smex slaves but there were no descriptions just reference made to them. The book started in the future and then returned to the past throughout the story. I found the ending sad but not unexpected.

There were obstacles, there was opposition, and there were problems, and yet this love could not be denied. I very much enjoyed this story of Rosa, daughter of a seamstress, and Salvatore Santini, Mafia.
