Love and Other Lies sees the return of delightful Rue (the reliable little brother in The Playboy's Dark Secret) as he steps out into the world in search of that little something that's been missing in his life. Rue was a big drawcard for me in this book. Madeline Ash creates such vivid characters that leave lasting impressions that I was eager to see know more about Rue and see if he found his happily ever after with the right person. Abby is a strong and intelligent woman who's secrets are keeping her from living her life to the fullest. The rollercoaster ride of Rue and Abby falling in love kept me entranced. This book is a wonderfully easy read. The setting is enchanting and made even more so with a cast of charming supporting characters.

Set in the beautiful (unfortunately fictional) town of Bellgulla on Australia's east coast, Love & Other Lies is a delightful read. Both protagonists and secondary characters are charming and warm, and I loved the link back to the previous book in the series (also highly recommended). The heroine's conflict made this book stand out from the rest, as it was not something I had read before. And Rue... what can I say about Rue? He is just perfect.

This book pulls at the heartstrings, brings laughter to your lips and cheers the soul. Perfect to read with a cup of tea and your dog curled up on the couch beside you.

I enjoyed 'Love and Other Lies' very much. I don't read this genre very often but whenever I do I choose a Madeline Ash book as she not only writes a great story but the characters she creates are believable, funny and always with endearing human foibles. I particularly liked that the men in the previous story and this one were brothers which added a sweet twist to the end.Well done Madeline Ash, this was another winner!!! Love always wins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and fluffy contemporary romance. 28 January 2015

I loved this book. It's light and fluffy contemporary romance about a woman who has some things in her past she's ashamed of, and a man who completely misunderstands her when she says, 'you're too good for me'.

All he hears is the same line that every woman before her has given him so he decides if a bad boy is what she wants, he'll give her a bad boy.

There is a little ache but it's mostly angst free. Such a good book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Unique Premise 16 February 2015

The premise of this book varied from the usual angsty romance formula. The lead characters, Rue & Abby were both likable and relatable. It was a quick, easy and engaging read.
4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet tale about two lost souls who cross paths by chance. 12 February 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
Love & Other Lies is a sweet tale about two lost souls who cross paths by chance. Abby was in a difficult situation and Rue was lost in the small town of Belgulla, when he happened to find Abby. The sparks are there from the beginning, but Abby is hesitant to act of them. It was an intriguing tale of love, trust and finding happiness.

I loved Abby’s passion, she is a vet in a small town and the health and well being of all the animals are her priority and they often touch her heart. She does have her issues though, and although she is afraid to trust herself, I could see that she was a stronger character now and just needed encouragement.

Rue really is a nice guy. I could see how generous and kind he could be right from the beginning. The advice he got from his brother was amusing and it was fun to see him going after what he wanted… that being Abby! He was more direct and forceful, and I liked that side of him!

Abby and Rue’s story was a sweet and romantic one. Rue is looking for someone in his life and thinks Abby is the one. Abby’s past was a difficult one, and I never imagined what that would be like for someone, so it was interesting to see it entwined into a storyline like this. This is the first book I have read from Madeline Ash, and I found the writing style and the pace of the story flowed easily. I will definitely pick up more of her work in the future!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and Lies 15 March 2015
By Butterfly Reads - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This story meets romance expectations very well, there is the initial meeting that draws out conflict and chemistry, there is something else that draws them together in this case it was an injured dog, there is increasing attraction and emotional intensity and there is some growth and change. But the conflict is unusual in this story the heroine Abby is a compulsive liar and lies of omission and secrets are common source of conflict but I have not seen a compulsive liar ever in a romance ever before now. And I have to tell it was weird but very different not common in books well romance books. But instead of Rue being the typical alpha male he is the constant nice guy something he tries and fails every time to change.

Some parts of the story worked better for me then others did. It was not the relationship I had a big problem with, or even the conflict and how that was handled. Instead it was more of the way Abby had all these people holding her accountable if she lied she could not stay in the town. That aspect did not sit well with me. But with all that being said Love & Other Lies was a real pleasure and a good way to pass time and it strikes an interest for reads looking for something sweet to escape too.
