Should be a film!

I love discovering new talented Aussie authors and this is no exception. I particularly like heroines in their 40's who have loved life but have a sense of humour, so Looking for Wonderland ticked a few boxes for me.
This book is a delightful, lighthearted read with a touch of slightly dark humour. The main character, Alice, is endearingly lost but luckily has a group of supportive friends (who are equally flawed). Good thing too because Alice's dysfunctional family are hard work. I read this book in one night, laughing often, sad at times and now slightly afraid of going to hospital and being 'that' patient, and with a greater respect for nurses in general. You can't make this stuff up! There is never a dull moment in this book.
Despite Alice's gentle and generous nature and occasional naivety, she is capable of searing insights. The characters in Looking for Wonderland are all wonderfully drawn. I can't wait for Looking for Wonderland to be made into a film.

Well developed characters and a pleasant storyline. Alice is a nurse, looking for passion and direction in her life. So used to taking care of others, a trait those around her often take advantage of. This is her story of finding her "wonderland".
It's an easy, addictive read but spoilt by careless errors which is a real shame.

I was excited to read the next book by Jane Ainslie, and she certainly didn't disappoint!
A relaxing read to be flicked through with a warm cuppa (or glass of wine) that takes you through the life of a hard working nurse, as she deals with the hilarious string of patients, her exasperating family and falling in love (complete with having to kiss a few toads along the way!)
This is a book that says what most think, but dont say aloud!
Get comfy in your favorite chair for this one.

Alice is such a great character, she is strong, sometimes fragile and witty, and she is relatable immediately, there is definitely a little of Alice in all of us. It is well written and flows from one drama to the next.
Alice definitely deserves a sequel.

I liked the concept of this book and the story arc was satisfying enough, but several parts of it felt rushed or glossed over.

There was also some stilted sounding conversations, where you’d expect contractions and you get full, spelled out phrases. It didn’t seem as natural as it could have.

But definitely worth a read and it was nice to read a book set in Australia with messy, relatable characters.

What a sweet read. This isn't your average girl who works in a media job having the oh so difficult task of choosing between two posh boys while donning multiple designer clothes and being told how great she is by everyone else, while she pouts prettily.

In this case the titular character of Alice has a very normal job, that of a nurse and very realistic domestic circumstances to to go with it.

Alice is an Australian lady who finds herself at 44 years old living alone with her mother's ungrateful cat because her mum is living in a retirement village and can not look after the animal anymore but still enjoys nothing better than to remind Alice of her supposed shortcomings each time she sees her. Luckily Alice has some great friends and it is their relationship and the food the drink they consume I probably enjoyed the most. As well as the very well described details of Alice's job and the people she meets through it I loved the really charming and gentle relationship that develops between her and the infectious diseases doctor Johan.

This is how real people interact and also the dysfunctionality of the extended family was an excellent example of that. I also really enjoyed the friendship between Alice and Shanti her colleague as well as the relationships with other health professionals, good or bad.
The story will have you feeling tearful at times and other laughing at the shenigans our nurse has to put up with regarding both relatives and patients crazy antics

I couldn't put this down and really felt for the very lovely heroine finding her way through sometimes very trying situations but it is safe to say you will be left with a good feeling ultimately and that for me is all I can ask for.

Looking for Wonderland was a fun, entertaining read. I really enjoyed it. It’s a very different thing than the stuff I usually read. I prefer my fiction to be on the dark side. It’s been a long time, perhaps too long since I read something light and fluffy. Not too light and fluffy though. Looking for Wonderland does have plenty of drama towards the end. Vanilla drama. No dead bodies or demons. I really liked Alice as a character. She was very real and easy to relate to. I’ve felt like her at times, quite recently in fact. I loved the way the novel explores the dynamics of dysfunctional family relationships. Alice’s mother came across as a horrible, harsh person. Every family has one. In my family it’s my dad’s older sister. She has a reputation as being very abrasive and hard. Funnily enough, I’m the only person who gets on with her. I get on great with her. What does that say about me? I saw my aunt in Alice’s mother. I liked Johan. His romance with Alice was sweet but not OTT. I can’t stand simpering lovey-dovey romance. I liked the way Looking for Wonderland ended. It was a happy ending but also without being OTT. I find happy-ever-after ending’s nauseating. Looking for Wonderland managed to avoid this while finishing on an optimistic note. I’d highly recommend this book.

This was a free book and as I am becoming aware they are usually the best this book is a bit slow to start but as I got in to it it got better. It had a few twist but all in all it's just a love story which I dont normal like it this one has a happy ending. The writing was good I would recommend this to anyone I read it while I was on holiday and my family were on rides
