A land ran by evil, who look to use everyone to make themselves more powerful and the ordinary people struggle to get by. Once a year children from each village are tested as they reach their testing age to find out if they are gifted, cursed or ordinary. All hope to be gifted when the holy relic touches them and save their family and their village from poverty, although they will be used as a vessel by those in power. Noone wants to be cursed, who die as soon as the holy relic touches them. One girl in the village knows she is different. She doesn't need to be touched by anything holy to gain powers, she has always had them. Not just one, but many. She yearns to save her village but does not want to expose herself, yet when it comes to saving those she cares about she will stop at nothing. A magical adventure of good against evil. I loved this book and would highly recommend it.

Nara lives in a small village called Dimmitt, a very poor place, where no one has been discovered with magic for decades. An announcement ceremony is due to take place shortly and both Nara and her best friend Mykel will be tested for the presence of any magical gifts. Her adoptive father, Bylo, has always told her to keep what she can do as a secret and to never let anyone know, not even her best friend.

If a teenager is found to have a magical gift, they can bring riches to their village, by serving the royalty or going into the army, and sending money home. Nara finds out the reason why no one in the village has been discovered and aims to fix it. Only, this could make matters worse for her and others undertaking the test and those around them.

This test and the results of it leave her, Mykel and Bylo in danger and having to flee. Her decision at the ceremony leads her to learn more about herself and have to grow up very quickly. Her friendship with Mykel and her reliance on him is getting stronger. She meets someone who tells her about ‘broken’ people like herself and why they are different. She prays to the divine Dei for guidance and must learn about all her new abilities.

I found this a fascinating story. The relationship between Nara and Mykel, is one of true friends from a very early age and a hint of romance. Her adoptive father, Bylo, took her from a young age and been the only actual family she knows of. This could change soon. A great story of magical gifts, but also how these can be used for evil as well. Tales of legends and what may be coming next. It kept my interest the whole way through and I would love to read the next book.

The heroine of our story is a teenage girl called Nara, and she lives in a backwater and poor village called Dimmitt. Nara and her friend Mykel are awaiting the announcement ceremony where hopefully someone in their village would be gifted and bring hope to the village.
This is start of an adventure which takes them from one end of the land the other. Until Nara is captured for her gifts to be used by an evil and ambitious man.
This is the first in a series, and sets the scene perfectly. There is the world building, believe system and ancient prophecies and the great characters. All in all an enjoyable and captivating read. Where is book two, I’ll be waiting as I love to escape into interesting and magical stories.

Looking For Dei is a wonderfully written fantasy story that focuses on the lives of Nara, her wonderful adopted father and her best friend Mykel. Nara has magic. Most people that possess magical powers have one, extremely powerful people can have up to two but Nara has many and throughout the story she learns more about herself and her powers.

There is a lot of world building within this book but it's done amazingly well, it is interwoven within the story-line. This is a fabulous story in it's own right but it is also an incredibly strong base for future stories to build upon. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. The story pace changes throughout the book but it's a natural ebb and flow and is necessary for the tale
