I have been a fan of the Longarm adult western series for many years. I missed some of the earlier Longarm novels but recently received a copy (Cover ripped and the pages are turning yellow-Published in 1981) of Longarm #31 in Northfield by Tabor Evans. I found this one to be a pretty good read even though it was dated. The character of Longarm is fairly well developed in this tale.
Like most of the books this series Custis Long, Deputy Federal Marshal is assigned by his boss Billy Vail, Chief Federal Marshal working out of the Denver office, to investigate why some of the paper bills stolen from the Northfield bank have been turning up in the area. This is the same bank Jessie James and the Younger brothers robbed years ago.
In the process of his investigation he runs up against some real bad owl hoots and like most of the Longarm western novels there is plenty of action, twists, turns, and as always, ladies with lusty ideas to make this an interesting page turning read.
If you are a Longarm fan you may want to check out this earlier novel.
Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior’s poetic tribute).
