A stunning conclusion to this series

This is the final book in this wonderful series and we finally get Kane Highwater story Thirteen years earlier he discovered the man he thought was his father wasn't and he didn't react well in fact at the age of sixteen he ran and he has been running ever since. Now he has been spotted at a event his sister is competing at Can Kane be convinced to come home again by Lark Leclair If anyone can do it it will be her as a former Child Protective Services worker she probable understand how he feels more than anyone else And a growing attraction between them is also drawing them together As they have a future together and can he once again take his place in the family You will have to read to see

This is a story that will tug at your heartstrings and is the perfect way to end our tome with the Highwater family

An emotional and engaging story

I’ve been following Kane Highwater’s story through all the Texas Justice books so by the time I reached Lone Star Homecoming I thought I knew him. I certainly knew with a certainty just how much his family loved him.
What I didn’t know was just how wounded this extraordinary man was nor just how perfect Lark Leclair would be at helping him to heal and grow into the man he was by the end of this story.
This book has been an emotional rollercoaster filled with angst and second guessing but also with love, care and concern. It was such a privilege to take this journey with Kane and Lark, to watch him blossom into his real self and take his place as a member of the Highwater family. The book is beautifully written and utterly engaging and I just didn’t want it to end. Thank you Justine Davis for an amazing journey.

Lone Star Homecoming concludes the Texas Justice series and I enjoyed it but found it to be fairly weak. As with every book by Ms Davis, the book has interesting characters and is well-edited, so there is that. The first quarter of the book starts out strong with Lark, a social worker, happening upon Kane, the missing Hightower brother, at an arena. Kane is at the arena in stealth mode to see his sister, the youngest Hightower: Sage, participate in a horse competition. Lark is there to lend Sage support in this competition that she's worked so hard for. The book ends well with the last quarter tying a nice bow on the outstanding questions that started in Book 1. It's the 50% in the middle that stalls for me. There was little build-up of a personal relationship between Lark and Kane, and she largely acted as a counselor to him or a facilitator for discussions with his siblings. Their first kiss happens late in the book and their intimacy occurs even later. Their jump into "I love you" felt rushed with no foundation.

It was great to catch up with the Hightowers and their significant others, as well as secondary characters from other books in the series like Marcos and Frank, but overall this was a near miss for me. If you've read the other books, please do read this one if for no other reason than completeness. Ms Davis is a great author but this one ranks low on my list from her.

Family Dynamics and a Resolution

Out of all of the books in this series, this one has to be my favorite. Kane Highwater left town right after his father's death. Kane basically disappeared off the face of the earth for intensive purposes. It seems like he is running for his life. And in many ways, he is.

Lark LeClair is a social worker and a friend of Sage Hightower. She has made it a crucial part of her work as a social worker to work with children who have been abused and abandoned. She admires the Hightower clan for never giving up on looking for Kane no matter how slim the lead or how old.

Lark accompanies the Hightower clan to a national reining competition in Oklahoma City and spots someone who she thinks is Kane but loses sight of him. And when she spots him again, she follows him. This is the setup to the Hightowers finding Kane and bringing him home back to Last Stand.

The relationship between Lark and Kane is an interesting one to watch develop. Both of them have issues they need to resolve in order to have a strong, healthy relationship. But both want to make it work.

The emotions in this book are strong ones and complex ones. And everything happens in a very short space of time which can be hard to realize.

Although it can be read as a stand alone, I believe it is better read after reading the first four books in the series. These books set up the family dynamic and a lot of the history that is resolved in this book.

I have pretty much been reading Ms. Davis' books since her first ones were published and they have never failed to amaze me with how well written and researched they are. I am looking forward to more of her books coming out hopefully soon.

I just finished book five in this series and I have to say each one made me want to read the next. I loved each character and found it difficult to stop reading to get some sleep. Although sometimes repetition of a phrase became a bit bothersome, it was appropriate and didn’t distract as some phrases do.

The Highwaters are a good family with problems and issues like other large families. It is interesting how each has a unique quality that stands out and, while useful, can be problematic as well. How each brother and sister handles their unique situation is interesting. And how they meet and fall in love with just the right person is sweet.

Although you don’t have to read each book in order, it’s what I like to do...the way I roll.

So now I’m on the hunt for more by Justine Davis. I’ve read some of her other books and now looking for anything I have not read yet.

I highly recommend this series.

Strong Family Ties

I have loved each of the books in this series and will miss reading about these “people.” Sage and her three brothers never stopped looking for Kane. His misplaced guilt over his father’s death has kept him on the run. Luckily, Lark spotted him at a competition where Sage was competing with her horse. Lark’s job of working with abused kids helped her know how to talk to Kane and keep him from running again. This book is so special because Kane is with his family, and they show him how much they care and have missed him. They also explain some things he wasn’t aware of. Since I love this family, it was great to read about Shane, Slater and Sean...and the women they love. Sage and Scott are finally together. Now that Kane is home they are all ecstatic. Kane has found his family and the love of his life...Lark.

What a great ending to a fabulous series!

This story, like all of the rest of the stories in this series was so mesmerizing, and very hard to put down. I can't imagine what Kane went through at the young age of 16 and trying to survive on his own. And then there's the guilt he was going through, too. But he had the love of a good family to help him get through it all, even if it took him 13 yrs,. to realize it.

This was a great story. I felt so bad for Kane, but it really was his own doing that put him in that position. It was great to see the whole family again. I also liked the hunt and the people we got to meet along the trails. Just a little sad now, that series has come to an end.
