About the authors

Shemer has been a fan of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and RPG games since the early 80’s.
In 2016 he started writing his first novel: Life Reset which turned into a 6-book series with its grand finale published in 2021. Each book in the series became an Amazon bestseller.
In 2019 Shemer quit his day job as a software developer to become a full-time author and released his second series: Earth Force, a sci-fi series consisting of a 2-book arc. Shemer hopes to garner enough community awareness and support to start writing the second arc.
As an avid gamer, a D&D dungeon master, and Navy veteran, Shemer has a wealth of life experience to draw on for his writing. His books always include elements of kingdom/settlement development where the protagonist is forced to carve out a new place for themselves in the face of adversity.
Shemer spends his days writing and his nights fighting crime (well, mostly convincing his kids to go to bed, which is very similar).
Shemer also enjoys writing about himself in the third-person and hopes you find his work enjoyable.

Usually LITRPG leans towards strong story driven characters or deep and systemic mechanics. It really is hard to strike a balance between the two.
There is enough personality injected into each character, though I wish some of the fringe characters had more quirks to differentiate them (though the immediate sidekicks all drip with personality) since it was hard to remember which lieutenant was which.
The plot was good, though the first 'build and expand' and consequent 'final battle' shift of tone happened so suddenly it could break necks. I won't go into spoilers but the game mechanics kind of made this neccesary that once the end of near, it was obvious and this progressed quickly.
The love interest was lacking, definately not the strong point especially in this sequel.
The player element was fleshed out well in the beginning but I feel like the direction it was taken harmed flow and the overall satisfaction towards the end. It made me sad to see how things shape as it did, though it did make me feel something. It's a credit to the author I cared and wanted their involvement, but also a missed opportunity for the protagonist (and this the audience) to appreciate and fall in love with the travellers even more. Especially the twins, I feel like the comraderaderie between players cannot be replicated by NPCs bound by their strict role playing personalities.
Game mechanics - superb. Shemer manages to sprinkle small tidbits of hints which later become core parts of the narrative (items, skills and their interactions) which is a nice surprise. Base building is very solid.. Though the as mentioned earlier it can venture a little to much into number crunching and calculating resources which was dry. Though this was few and far between.
Suspense is one the biggest draw cards! I won't say much but the way internal discord is done was good. It kept me on my toes and constantly doing my own puzzle solving. Besides from the jarring 'we are preparing for the end' and sudden 'hey the end of the book is near'. This could have been rectified by a more even pace for the transition between mid Point to end game. Such as smaller warnings of the last battle which increasing became more pressing.
Overrall this series is at the forefront of litrpg. At times some of the main cast feels a bit unseeded (haha) and it felt like Shemer suddenly remember he had to end the book soon so hit the button for the final engagement. The well thought out mechanics, strong dialogue with the sidekick, intriguing and rewarding plot definately win out the day.
I don't normally buy non KU books but this was worth it!
Strongly recommend to fans of gamelit or litrpg especially. Mixes action VR MMO with town building/settlement management and a hefty dose of crafting.
GREAT world building! Love the call backs to first book, like the apes showing up. Would have liked to see them become respawning demon apes tied to the tribe but oh well.
Keep up the great work Author and can't wait to read another installment of this or another series.
The author is careful to prevent the character from getting OP skills and weapons. In fact, i always felt like our main man was constantly the underdog. I absolutely loved the settlement builsing focus and expansion side.
I really like the descriptions specially because there is no gore or sex that allows my yo recommended to my kids.
I look forward to the next book

But enough of technicalities, the book is amazing and memorable among other Litrpg contemporaries.
Unfortunately the litrpg genre is undergoing rapid growth and some of the new books are a dime a dozen...
This book is the worthy exception on par with eg. Kong's The Land.
Enjoy!
