Product Description

I am a blank canvas that even the artist in me doesn’t know how to fill. My life started the day I escaped and woke up in the hospital.

Escaped from reality. Escaped from fear. Escaped from him.

Nothing exists before that, and as the days trickle by, I’m positive there’s nothing after that either.

I try though. For Poppa, who hasn’t left my side since I woke up, I try to live.

But every attempt is futile. So I escape again and start fresh on a small island, where there aren’t any expectations to fulfill. Where family and friends I don’t remember can't look at me with sadness and disappointment.

And when Travis Keillar comes into my life everything changes. The memories I’ve lost become unimportant to the memories I’m creating with him. For the first time since I opened my eyes that fateful day in the hospital, life smiles back at me.

Until it doesn’t.

Until he comes back for me.
For revenge of crimes I don’t remember committing.

This book is so appropriately titled it is shocking. I started reading it.....life became interrupted. I didn't want to stop. THIS BOOK! It has so many different elements that the author, Yessi Smith, blended effortlessly together. There is suspense, mystery, horror, and romance. Strong character development...right down to the dog, Leeloo, who all animal lovers will love.

The prologue takes us through a terrifying run in the woods. It is spine chilling. Even though it is only two pages, it completely drew me in to this story. I had to know what was happening and why.

Who, what, why, and where? These are questions that Holly cannot answer. She doesn't even remember her own name. She has to rely on the kind old man who tells her that he is her Poppa. He makes her feel safe. He takes care of her until she is stronger. However, she isn't convinced she will ever be the person she use to be.
"I’m back in their lives, but I’m a different version of who they remember. They remember a vibrant, fearless, spontaneous girl. They’re left with me."

It is hard to describe the story without giving away parts of the plot. I can tell you it is a must read. A read that will run you through all the emotions. You will feel like you are right there with Holly, as she tries to remember life and what interrupted hers.

Thank you, Yessi Smith, for interrupting life with this fabulous story. I can't wait for more.

At the start of Life Interrupted by Yessi Smith, Holly isn't even sure that her name is Holly. That's what the kindly old man calls her, but what does he know?

In the midst of an avalanche of questions for which she has too few answers within her grasp, she struggles to hold on to her sanity, to her grip on reality, meanwhile, the man who held her prisoner for the last six months, and evidently tortured her over the duration is still out there somewhere. Possibly running for the hills, possibly waiting around the next corner to snatch her back again, the only thing anyone knows for sure is that he's some kind of monster. Something in him has broken in such a way that he could do such a thing in the first place.

I simply can't say too much about the storyline without giving away significant spoilers, so I'll stop there. What I will say is that this book provides a fascinating glimpse of the line people sometimes walk between being sane and insane, between being human and being what we reassuringly label an inhuman monster.

Participating in Holly's journey as she navigates her way from complete ignorance through to a growing awareness of who she is as a person and who she's prepared to try and be, we see her grow, even if the new Holly has no conscious memory of being the old Holly.

The path of her journey has her interacting with a wide range of fascinating characters, from that old man at her bedside to the two BFFs who can't stop expecting Holly to be just plain old Holly, to the two men who enter her life with no expectations from the old Holly, simply accepting the new Holly at face value.

There's love that plays a major role in how Holly's recovery progresses, and love that forces a show down as everything comes together.

I can't even with this book. I'm just gonna start by saying, as soon as I seen the trailer for this book I NEEDED it. NEEDED! The trailer pulled at me that much.

I Needed to see what happened to Holly. I got goose bumps thinking of it. So to say i was excited starting this book was an understatement.

Then I read the prologue..... HOLY CRAP. Hooked. I was actually screaming RUN, RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!'

I feel like reading Hollys story I held by breathe the whole book. I was heartbroken for her. What she went through NO ONE should go through. The terror, the loss. Her life was took from her.

But Holly fights, for her Poppa more then anything(flove him by the way!) And that fighting for him starts to make he fight for herself. She gets away from everything, and finds just what she needs. Or should I say WHO she needs.... Travis is EVERYTHING she needs. Hell, he's everything I need LOL.

She starts to heal, hour by hour. Day by day. But HE won't let that happen. He can't allow it. And yes, he's as messed up as you can think. He's just.... ugh, shivers even thinking of him.

This is a must read, which I'm sure will become a favourite for people in 2016.

YES these is a love story here. But I won't lie, know the book your going into is dark and twisted. And OH so beautiful.

Husband & wife, father & son, brother & sister, woman & man all force the cast of characters towards an epic confrontation that will have you on the edge of your seat.

While its certainly far from what one might consider a traditional romance novel, with significant elements of psychological thriller and a dash of suspense, what I can say with certainty is that it was a ripping good yarn, one I'm tempted to go back to the start and read all over again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Loved it.

Imagine waking up in a strange place with no memory of who you are or the life you have led up until this point. Kind eyes attached to a kind man that tells he is your Poppa also tells you the your name is Holly. All you do know for sure is that your body is beyond battered and your scared of the dark. No not just scared, petrified and as the memories start to come back you begin to understand why. Hell really does exist and for some reason, one you can’t remember he, the man tried so hard to keep you there.

“Shallow breaths escape me but I scream when realization dawns on me. I didn’t make it. I didn’t run hard enough , fast enough, long enough.”

Holly doesn’t remember who she was before but she knows without a doubt that she has to become a fighter, to be as prepared as possible for anything life may throw at her. She lives everyday in fear since the unimaginable pain that she endured but she won’t give up, no matter what. She will never be a victim again. With the help of her beloved Poppa and a good friend she slowly starts to heal. She desperately wants a chance to live a life as close to normal as she can, and to find some happiness. But what happens if the devil decides your debt isn’t paid and hell wants you back?

“ Even the most well hidden scars leave their repercussions , ones I’ll live with for the remainder of my existence.”

There isn’t to much I can say about this book without the possibility of giving to much away. The suspense aspect needs to remain intact. Yessi is an excellent storyteller and I’ve loved several of her books. But if I’m being honest this one fell short in part for me. I loved the idea of storyline itself and it had a ton of potential. There were for me just to many bits and pieces that were built up then fell sort of flat. I felt like there wasn’t enough time for the story, like maybe if it were a series it could have been so much better. Now don’t get me wrong the writing was good, like I said I’ve really loved all her other books and I loved that she stepped away from the norm but I just didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would. The characters were good, but I felt like I didn’t know them, there wasn’t a whole lot of character build up and I just didn’t feel a connection to any of them. I wanted to, I just didn’t. I honestly think this would have been a fantastic series, it would have seemed less rushed that way. So I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. It was just ok for me.

“Your life was interrupted by something you couldn’t have prevented or predicted. That doesn’t mean it’s over.”

2.0 out of 5 stars Confusing and disappointing 30 June 2016
By Barb - Published on Amazon.com

I broke my cardinal rule with this one and bought a book because of the cover (which, I gotta say, is stunning). Well, that, and I saw the tons of 5-star reviews, which, after having read the book, I just don’t understand! This book confused and frustrated me to no end. Props to the author for a fluid style and lovely prose, but when it comes to the actual story, I was sorely disappointed. Time and again. I kept reading (skimming, later on) just to see it end, to see if it would get better. But it didn’t.

Let me break some of this down (possible vague spoilers in the last section):

For the first third of the book, I thought I was reading a YA story. The characters sounded, thought, were treated as and referred to in a way that suggested the heroine and her friends were teenagers, and I was okay with that. I was intrigued by this horrible thing having happened to her, and this young girl dealing with it to get her life back together. The only clue that this wasn’t so was literally the references to her age, like the author was trying to remind me that, wait, she’s 24! I didn’t buy it.

Then the heroine changed location, and suddenly the book turned VERY adult. From one chapter to the next, the character suddenly became an adult and started acting that way. To be honest, it was jarring, and it completely threw me off. It’s like part way through an amazing Young Adult story, the author decided to change genres into adult suspense, did the barest minimum to alter what was already there (as in, added age references to the previous chapters) and left me wondering… what the heck??

It kind of went downhill from there. This book presented a town and people totally inept in coping with a crime. The whole time I was reading I kept asking myself, Why? WHY wasn’t this crime being investigated—AT ALL, from the sound of it? It seemed like as soon as Holly was released from the hospital, the police closed the case and moved on. No follow-up, noting. WHY didn’t anyone react in any real way to the very real and present threat to the heroine and her family’s safety? There were signs, literally, and no one reacted, except the heroine and her Poppa. WHY weren’t the police combing the area where she was found? You’d think they would… She was seriously hurt and on foot, she couldn’t have gone far from her captor… And it wasn't like there were too many options, given that this was a woodsy area with not too many dwellings around. Logic says, if they'd searched a one-mile radius, they likely would have found where she'd been kept, and this would have been solved before she'd even left the hospital. WHY didn’t the police question anyone, except the one person who didn't remember anything? WHY did the bad guy never get a knock on the door? WHY? WHY? WHY? Didn’t anyone in this town ever see a crime drama? WHY did these characters make the absolute worst decision every single time and get themselves into situations that could have been avoided?

There were so many plot holes and inconsistencies, I couldn’t make myself believe in this world, or any of these people. And that’s a huge shame, because this could have been such an amazing story…

A breath taking and heart breaking story - very well told in first person. It's a psychological drama more than a romance and it has some very strong characters that were well written.

My only objection was the shabby police work.
