Betty Dawsey is pissed to learn that her comfortable, yet boring fiance Thom is in fact an undercover operative. Everything she thought she knew went up in smoke with the condo she previously lived in…
Forced to remain together for her own safety, Betty and Thom will need to sort through the lies and truths which was their fake relationship. Learning to trust again and discover the real man that is Thom Lange will be the one thing to keep them both alive.
”Maybe he’s not too far removed from the basically kind and ethically moral person I thought he was. Only, there’re still all the lies and bad sex to be considered. His willingness to waste my life on a fake relationship to keep his cover intact. So yeah, not very deep down, I kind of still hate his guts and want to shoot him."
Now at this point I was really enjoying this story. It was funny, it was original, and both characters were kickass. And then it turned into an episode of ‘24’. It became so action packed that I thought I had started reading a different story. Somehow Betty went from florist to assassin and my mind started to wander, and I was no longer enthralled by this story. Le sigh……
Could be me, could be the story, but I just didn’t like.
What tended to throw me out of the story were the never ending action scenes. To be honest I have this problem with Marvel movies. The battles go onto long, I don’t believe them and this was the case with Lies. Way to many guns, escapes, and shoot outs.
Ultimately where the book struggled for me was that I just couldn’t believe that Betty could forgive Thom who had lied for a year to maintain a cover. I’m afraid I’m the type of woman that “hell has no fury like a woman scorned.”
I love to read romances that take us on a journey; the couple fight the attraction and yet despite the difficulties they can’t stop falling in love despite the obstacles.
I suggest that Thom and Betty were way to busy escaping physical and shoot out obstacles to fall in love.
However I’m sure most people will adore the book, it’s fun and what ever else Kylie remains an exceptional author of the genre. Her dialogue is fast paced witty her plotting is always immaculate.
I will read other reviews to see what others thought of this book.
So we start with Betty packing her stuff to leave her fiancé Thom. While taking boxes to the car her house explodes and from there things really take off. It isn’t long before Betty learns Thom is not the boring insurance adjustor he was claiming to be.
I had an absolute blast reading Lies. I barely made it ten pages into the book before I wanted to start talking about it and telling people to read it. Unfortunately for me I was sitting in a quiet doctor’s office so I had to contain my excitement.
Betty and Thom are an awesome couple. Betty is a good average everyday girl. Easy to relate to and she is strong and stands up for herself. At my first glimpse of Thom I thought he was going to be just this big alpha like we’ve all read before but he is so much more. He really is quite adorable and completely loveable and some alpha too.
Lies is a fun, fast paced, romance with plenty of action and I totally loved it! I can’t wait for the audiobook version to come out because I know this is going to be a story that I read and listen to again and again.

Sex: hell yes, and very hot sex. Could have used at least one more scene before the end.
Plot: Great plot. I found it hard to put the book down. If fact, u til the wedding, I couldn’t. It didn’t end how I expected, but I saw all the twists coming a mile off, still, I enjoyed how the author delivered it.
World: This is a thriller suspense romance. The research I to the reality of the events that take place was there, if not slightly overdramatised in the American flavour, but still good. I could easily see this book as a Netflix movie, or even a series.
Recommend: Of course, I do. Betty is hilarious and the lengths Thom goes to quite incredulous. You’ll want to read this.

Well, this is disappointing. I haven't read this author in a while but seems I haven't been missing out on anything. Liked her earlier work better.
So Betty wants to leave Thom because of their blah life. Nothing wrong there. However, she finds out he's actually a spy or whatnot and someone is out to get them.
It started out good but then went downhill. Fast.
Also Betty. Thom lied to her. Did other stuff too and yes, I get that she's running for her life so she has to focus on that, but she can still be angry at the things Thom pulled. God knows I would be - and I'm sure many others! And Thom... one of the flattest characters I've ever encountered. And no, it's not because of his profession. Read a few similar novels and the hero was well-developed.
I was so excited about this book but it was a major miss. Huge one. Standard DNF rating o'mine of 2 stars. Can't recommend it.
It quickly becomes apparent that Thom has a secret he needs to share with the class when she witnesses him expertly wielding firearms and explosives. It seems her quiet and simple boyfriend is an experienced Operative, and Betty is about to sign up for a “bring your girlfriend to work day” experience.
Thom hates that Betty has been dragged into the fray by the double agent he has been tracking, but keeping her safe is his top priority. It’s obvious the disinterest Betty felt he had in the relationship was just a ruse to keep his work and professional live separate. Not only is he exhausting all his resources to keep them alive, but he’s also rolling out his heavy artillery *wink*to prove how much she means to him.
I had a lot of fun reading this caper, and very much enjoyed this new direction from the author. Think the action of Mission Impossible meets the comedy of True Lies. There were one or two standout secondary characters so I hope this means there will be further missions I’d have no hesitation in choosing to accept.
