When Helena Hunting writes a book it’s definitely an automatic one-click for me. When it’s back in the PUCKED world AND the beginning of a new series ... I’m already there!!! A LIE FOR A LIE was another outstanding read, Helena’s words capturing and entrancing me from the beginning. It was wonderful catching up with the Chicago crew ... laughs galore as usual.
Rook “RJ” “Rookie” Bowman is headed to his family’s cabin in Alaska for some well earned R&R. He’s now the Captain of Chicago’s NHL team and needs a break. Lainey Carver is also on her way to Alaska, except she’s going to do some marine research for her Master’s degree.
What happens when Lainey literally falls into RJ’s lap? Well, you can definitely be assured that it’s going to involve some comedy moments, plenty of heat (yeah I know Alaska ...) and some heartache thrown in. The chemistry between RJ and Lainey was like a wildfire ... hot and intense. These two really shone, like the brightest star at night. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end when RJ is called away due to a family emergency.
Fast forward a year and an unexpected meeting may just change everything for both RJ and Lainey. First, secrets must be shared and trust must be gained. These two are just made for each other, opposites so beautifully matched. I fell for RJ ... I mean I fell HARD, he was absolutely divine. He fought with everything he had to prove to Lainey he was worth taking a risk on. She was brilliant, strong in her beliefs, she had the sweetest nature ... but she was by no means a walkover.
Another attention grabbing, emotion destroying ride from Helena. I can’t wait for more of this series. Highly recommended.
I started listening to A Lie For A Lie yesterday, and was completely hooked by the storyline and the fabulous narrators. Halfway through I switched to the ebook - I had reached the really good part of the story (the whole Lie for A Lie part - if you have read it, you know where I was!), and I just HAD to keep going. Unfortunately listening to Audio relaxes me so much at night it sends me to sleep, so ebook to finish was required. (Jason Clarke is one of my fav narrators, so I'm going to finish the audio off today as well - he's too good not to listen to).
Lainey was such a sweet, super smart, adorably awkward character. She meets Rook (RJ) when they are both travelling to Alaska, and he is completely charmed by the above mentioned adorable awkwardness. Bonus that she has no idea at all who he is. When RJ is called away from Alaska for a family emergency, both realise too late they are unable to contact the other. Fast forward to a year later where they run into each other again by chance, and then starts the interesting part of the story which kept me up late reading!
There are a couple of more serious themes in the storyline, but overall it was a very low angst, at times fun to read second chance romance.
Rook and Lainey.. All the feels with this book. Not only do we get hot, intense and passionate. We get tears, drama and regret. This story gets you wanting more! I have missed the pucked crew and to get some of that again was amazing. Can't wait for more!!!
A Lie for A Lie is the first title in Helena Hunting, All In series. I adored her Pucked series, and couldn't wait to dive into a new hockey series and this title did not disappoint.
Fate put this pair in each other's path not once, but twice. What ensues is a sweet, sexy, and fun second chance romance.
Lainey is sweet, and kind, yet also kind of naïve. She's very intelligent, passionate and strong and shouldn't be underestimated despite some of the quirks of her character.
RJ or Rook is a kind, caring and protective hero. A reformed player he's sweet, charming, and thoughtful, and has plenty of determination and drive when it comes to proving his worth and character to Lainey.
The banter and interactions are fun, flirtatious and has the signature humor that I've come to expect from Helena's books.
If you're a fan of the Pucked series, you will love that several past favourites make a cameo appearance throughout this title.
I adored Lainey and RJ's story and cannot wait for the next addition to the All In series.
So the blurb for this book was pretty perfectly written. I had a good idea of what I was getting into when I picked this up and I was spot on. But in saying that the journey to get there and the story once we did was great.
Rook is captain of Chicago which if your familiar with the Pucked series is home to all those awesome characters we already love. So I got a lot of Violet and Alex and Sunny and Bucky and everyone else which I loved.
Lainey was a little different than I expected and it just made me like her that much more. She was so strong in her vulnerability and I felt for everything that she went through.
And Rook was so sweet and I loved that he had matured from his former puck bunny sampling ways well before he met Lainey. It just made him so much more appealing to me that he learnt from his past and grew up all on his own.
I am so glad that the series is off to such a solid start and I can't wait to see who's next in the lineup of hockey hotties.
Pucked was my first book by Helena Hunting and after reading that she became an author that I just had to one click every new released book from her. To be able to step back in to this world with A Lie For A Lie, well I was almost beside myself. Alex Waters to this day is still my number one book boyfriend, but boy does Rook come a close second. Helena certainly knows how to write fabulous lead male characters. She also isn't too shabby when it comes to female leads as well. Lainey is perfectly imperfect. She sees and lives her life a little bit differently to most others, but it just made her all the more endearing. Now this story is the first book in the new All In series, but I am unsure whether this will be hockey related or something else. Doesn't really matter to me, I just know I will definitely read it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book
