Lainey was such a sweet, super smart, adorably awkward character. She meets Rook (RJ) when they are both travelling to Alaska, and he is completely charmed by the above mentioned adorable awkwardness. Bonus that she has no idea at all who he is. When RJ is called away from Alaska for a family emergency, both realise too late they are unable to contact the other. Fast forward to a year later where they run into each other again by chance, and then starts the interesting part of the story which kept me up late reading!
There are a couple of more serious themes in the storyline, but overall it was a very low angst, at times fun to read second chance romance.
This story gets you wanting more! I have missed the pucked crew and to get some of that again was amazing. Can't wait for more!!!
Lainey and RJ's story is full of attraction, dripping with lust - and halted by lies.
I didn't even read the blurb before I started reading this one - didn't need to lol. However, if you do read the blurb, you could have a pretty good guess at what one of the lies is. Or like me, you will guess some of it as you are reading along. However that did not take away anything from my enjoyment.
Their story is a wonderful second-chance romance, with a few hurdles along the way. There was a bit of drama for drama's sake, however nothing was really OTT.
Were they lies? Were they lies of omission? Does it really matter at the end of the day. Someone gets hurt either way. It is the way that the hurt is dealt with that matters, right?
I liked that when things get found out, there was some serious grovelling, and our guy shows the man he really is, not what the world shows him as.
I loved seeing the Pucked boys and their families - Vi is still as funny AF as she every was, and I love every scene she is in.
I did miss the actually hockey in this one though - but that is just me!
I am really looking forward to the next book now.
Run out and grab yourself a copy of A Lie for A Lie - RJ is worth it!
Rook is captain of Chicago which if your familiar with the Pucked series is home to all those awesome characters we already love. So I got a lot of Violet and Alex and Sunny and Bucky and everyone else which I loved.
Lainey was a little different than I expected and it just made me like her that much more. She was so strong in her vulnerability and I felt for everything that she went through.
And Rook was so sweet and I loved that he had matured from his former puck bunny sampling ways well before he met Lainey. It just made him so much more appealing to me that he learnt from his past and grew up all on his own.
I am so glad that the series is off to such a solid start and I can't wait to see who's next in the lineup of hockey hotties.
I liked the way that RJ and Lainey met, and struck up their initial relationship, I guess you could call it. I totally understand RJ's reasons for some things as well. He really is genuinely sweet guy, and Lainey was a bunch of fun. Whilst she is quite a nervous person, she's really smart, and when she lets her guard down and gets to know RJ its amazing.
Fast forward to the year later after their initial time together, and we really get thrown into a whirlwind of a situation. I kind of expected was going to happen, but it was only an initial thought that got swept to the back of my mind.
I could completely understand Lainey's lack of trust and her wariness about getting to know RJ again and involve him in her life. He sure pulls out all the stops and really uses his true personality to start getting back into her goods books, and getting to know her.
There were secondary characters I loved (see our hockey friends and Eden), and others that I really wasn't too fond of (see Lainey's family), so we have a nice mix of personality types thrown in as well.
This story was so much fun to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I won't say much more than that, because it's fun to go in blind like I did, and enjoy these characters for who they are. I can't wait for more from this series, and to see where Helena takes us next!

A year later RJ attends the birthday party of a team mate's child, and comes face to face with that one person. Laney. Can Laney forgive the lie? Will she let RJ back into her life? Is RJ ready for everything that comes with being part of her life?
Helena writes great stories, she has the perfect balance of angst, witty banter, real life and romance in this story. Though this story is from the same world as her Pucked series, the feeling of the book is different.
Written as a second chance romance it was sweet.. emotional..great characters...well written and with some great humour thrown in along the way what else would you want?
This time it's the story of team captain Rook Bowman and starts with his time away on Kodiak Island that brings sweet unsuspecting Lainey into his life.
Lainey is not the usual type of girl that he meets so he instantly feels relaxed and that hes able to be himself which makes his feeling for her grow quicker than ever.
No more spoilers but I can assure you it's a great fun easy to read story that leaves you wanting more more more.
Was great to get glimpses into the lives of some of the Pucked guys again too.
