Lambda Literary Award finalist Carsen Taite is on a mission: spin tales with plot lines as interesting as the true, but often unbelievable stories she encountered in her career as a criminal defense lawyer. She is the author of numerous short stories and over a dozen novels.

First, let me say that I'm an unabashed fan of Carsen Taite. She is one of my favorite romance authors. In a genre where good writing and editing are not always a given, Ms. Taite's writing is always excellent. Letter of the Law is no exception. Even though this book is only 20-30 shorter than her average novel, you really felt it. It felt more like a novella than a full-length novel. Also, there was something essentially unlovable about one of the main characters. Perhaps that's a bit harsh. She definitely needed those extra pages to prove herself worthy of the books HEA. I'm not recommending people stay away from this book, bit it probably is my least favorite novel by this author.

I didn't know that this book was part of a series and I read it as a stand-alone story, which probably explains.my lack of understanding. The beginning of the story was an information dump with so many names and so much background information that it I was completely lost who was who, what they did and whom they were with. After a while I warmed to the main characters, but I was lost again when attraction suddenly transformed into being madly in love and happily ever after. And what happened to the fugitive uncle? All I know that the horse was found. I'm sorry, but this story didn't keep me captivated.

I enjoyed this part of the "Law" series and yet...... It felt very rushed in the end and the relationship didn't get a chance to really form before they declared their love for each other and the end. I have really enjoyed the crime, mystery, FBI, love stories in this series so hopefully the next one will feel more complete and put together in the end.
In the first story we had super law and order Peyton and sweet Lilly, in the next book we had dark and brooding Dale and impulsive and reckless Lindsey. In this story we have passionate and sweet as a warm puppy Bianca and the dark, sexy and mysterious Jade. Each book builds on the previous one. I've enjoyed the series very much and look forward to the next segment because we all know there will be a next book or there better be a next book! This book had a lot of unresolved family drama to be dealt with and that is all I can say on this matter! All in all a well done book!
