Callie O'Connor's life has never been the same since the Muse of Epic Poetry came alive inside of her. Now she's on the other side of the country, working as civilian psychologist for the Navy, and leading her Muse sisters in their quest to reopen the Theater of the Muses.
But nothing could have prepared her for Hunter Armstrong. He's a Navy SEAL, driven, confident, and dangerous. And he plans to do more than just protect her.
The gods couldn't have picked a better Guardian. But as Hunter soon discovers, Callie has some skeletons of her own in the closet, and loving her could lead to his destruction.
The Prophecy - "Every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn, and with their rebirth are also nine Guardians. They will be marked by the gods, and given gifts to protect his treasure. Their abilities will only be unlocked when they find their muse."

One of the best things about this story was that even though Hunter pursued Callie and kept asking her out, she didn’t just give in. She stuck to her guns and focused on talking to Hunter about their feelings and what was going on. While at the same time it didn’t feel like Hunter changed who he was, other than the natural progression of someone making hard decisions about their careers.
We also learn more about the Order of the Titans, what they are trying to achieve and the lengths they will go through to achieve them. I get the feeling that as I progress through each book we will learn more and more while also growing the little army against them in the form of Guardians who can work together to shut them down.
The one thing that kind of bugged me about this Callie’s Muse is that I couldn’t really see the relevance of her in this story. With Mel we could see her use her Muse’s powers throughout her story. However, with Callie we only get hints at it and more warnings and memories of her Muse’s impact to her life.

Book #2: The Muse Chronicles
Source: Netgalley and Purchase
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
Among the Muses, Callie O’Connor is the one most determined to stick to the “no men” pact she and her sisters struck. The last time Callie got involved with a man, her muse took over and the entanglement ended beyond badly. In fact, it ended so badly, Callie hasn’t even seen her own family in several years. Thankfully, she has the other Muses and their theater.
Hunter Armstrong is a lost man. Since returning from his last deployment, Hunter has struggled with settling back into his life. Through no fault of his own, Hunter is home while one of his fellow SEALs is lost overseas, he hasn’t seen his mother and sister in so long he’s nearly forgotten what they look like, and he doesn’t even have a proper place to live. It’s Hunter’s hope, the shrink he’s been ordered to see will just rubber stamp his paperwork so he can get on with the finding of his lost friend.
Callie is no one’s puppet and if the super-sexy SEAL across from her thinks she’s just going to sign off on his mental health, he’s a damn fool. Hunter may think he’s convincing, but his game is a bit off once he meets Callie. What’s more, following his stilted meeting with her, his birthmark begins to burn and he can apparently fear voices in his head. Yeah, maybe he does need a shrink and maybe a dermatologist to check out that birthmark.
Meanwhile, in the seat of evil (aka Belkin Oil) . . . . .
The followers of Kronos haven’t given up on their mission to kill off all the muses and they’ve singled out Callie as their next target. Before Hunter walked into her life, Callie may have been a far easier target, but Hunter’s abilities, both learned and innate make Callie a far more difficult target. Once she and Hunter take the time to really talk and Hunter understands his new role, it’s just a short step to the two falling for one another. When Hunter and Callie unite, they are force to be reckoned with and even the Kronos group is going to have a hard time getting through either of them.
The Bottom Line: With book two, The Muse Chronicles are really rolling and Hunter and Callie’s story brings them even deeper into the Kronos plot. The Muses were meant to be together and as each Muse collects her guardian, their strength and numbers increase. This only adds to the intensity and sexiness of each read. Really, how can you go wrong with more and more hot men protecting the women Fate brought to them? My only fear for this series is that it may become formulaic and stale: Muse meets hot man, Muse blows man’s mind with the story of guardianship, Kronos group tries to kill Muse, men and Muses thwart the plan, HEA. While this has been fine for the first two books, there is going to need to be threats and plot lines more expansive than this to keep readers interested and coming back for more.
Callie, a civilian, works with the military ensuring men and women are emotionally and mentally healthy to perform their jobs. When she sees her next appointment, she's immediately attracted, but due to her particular muse is hesitant to get involved with any man. Even one that calls to every part of her.
Hunter and Callie both feel the intense attraction between them, as well as the undeniable connection. Hunter has always believed his job wasn't conducive for a lasting relationship, yet that doesn't seem to matter when it's Callie. Since the Muse of Epic Poetry came alive inside her and eventually ended her engagement, Callie feels she's destined to be alone because her muse will never be satisfied, always looking for the next adventure. But there's just something about Hunter that she can't resist.
When it becomes clear that Hunter is Callie's guardian, sent specifically to protect her, the two grow closer as they spend time together. Callie explains Hunter's new path in life and Hunter is determined to keep Callie safe...and to make her his forever.
Can Hunter and Callie uncover who is behind the attacks on Callie? Will they be able to take down the group determined to stop the Muses from fulfilling the prophecy? Will Callie survive? What happens when Hunter needs to return to duty and go on a mission to retrieve his friend? Can Hunter and Callie make a relationship work? Will her fears regarding her Muse's sense of adventure keep her from taking a chance? Can these two get their HEA? It seems Hunter's best friend, Reed, has a certain distinguishing mark signifying he too is a guardian. Who will his Muse be?
One-click now and follow along as two people destined to be together find their way to each other and begin a love that was fated to be. Please keep in mind this is book two in the series and I highly recommend reading them in order. It's a fantastic and unique premise behind the series and I eagerly devour each story. I've already pre-ordered book three, Erica's story, and it doesn't release until March 2017.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
I really enjoyed this story a lot. I loved the new twist on muses . This was a quick read. I liked that there was a lot of mythological history in this story. This is also fast paced as well as action packed. This story has: kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, suspense, action, lies, missing teammate, mythological creatures, humor and Navy Seals, and so much more. At times this story was scary and had me on the end of my chair. I think Callie and Hunter make a perfect pair and I was rooting them on. I didn’t want to put this down. I loved Callie’s and Hunters character and I loved the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.
The next one is qued up and your ready to read it. Wonderful series absolutely amazing.
