I tend to order most of the 40K fiction and this one got lost in the pile till a few weeks back. Let me confess, the first 40 or 50 pages had me wondering if this was going on the "Try again in a year" shelf. It was like I had missed a book or something, and it looked like the Fists were going to be a bunch of jerks who look down upon normal humans.
Anyway, in the early 60 page area things began to pick up and for me it turned into a page-turner.
The Orks are Orks, but there is an interesting mix of Crimson Fists and local PDF troopers who try to stop them. Some characters are heroic, some bland, and often the situation seemed doomed. As with most 40K stories there are survivors, there are heroes, and many of both are at the right hand of the Emperor's Golden Throne by the end. If there is a follow-on book, I'll be aboard for the ride.
