Back cover Many suicides left a mystery behind them in this world. Were they crazy? Were they evil? Or were they ill? I used to think they were simply stupid until the day when I became one of “them”. My name is Nancy Xia. At age eighteen, I made a desperate attempt to end my life. Miraculously, I survived, but I sustained a severe injury and will live with a physical disability for the rest of my life. . . Thirteen years later, however, I am a happy and productive person. I love life and I love to live. I feel like I have an obligation to speak for others who were lost forever to suicide. After reading this book, it is my hope that you will come away with a better understanding of mental illness and a fresh and insightful perspective on some of the most troublesome social issues of our time around mental health. For these reasons, I feel profoundly compelled to share my story with you.

I highly recommend this book

Nancy courageously opened her world to the public. Her real story will help many other people who are suffering from mental illness to find answers, and also help the family and friends of those who are affected understand more about the illness. I was deeply touched by her story, in reading the book I felt her excruciating pain and desperate hopelessness that her parents felt. Thanks to our heavenly Father who guarded Nancy when she walked through the valley of the shadow of death. I highly recommend this book.

This book will make you cry, laugh and invest so much of your personal emotions into it. Everyone knows someone who is affected by mental illness, it really does give you a better understanding of this medical condition. But it's also a story about love, hope, resilience and so many other things. Often times, memoirs are written by people who are not professional writers, but this book is an excellent piece of literature. Highly recommended.

Leap offers a glimpse into the life of a young woman who provides a pointedly candid account of her mental health issues and finding a way to survive and maneuver through a seemingly broken health care system. Nancy Xia provides a courageously honest description of her journey through some very difficult times leading to her present day triumph. Her memoir is an engaging and captivating read which will leave her audience thinking about her story well after they have completed her book.
A must read!

I couldn't put it down once I picked it up. I loved Nancy's honest and gritty account of her own personal struggle with mental illness. Many times I have been very cynical on the subject of suicide and depression, however reading her story has softened my heart in a way that has made me think much more openly and empathetically to people struggling in this area. Thank you for being a voice for many who are all too often ignored until it is too late.
