New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter brings back Will Trent and Sara Linton in this superb and timely thriller full of devious twists, disturbing secrets, and shocking surprises you won't see coming
A mysterious kidnapping
On a hot summer night, a scientist from the Centers for Disease Control is grabbed by unknown assailants in a shopping center parking lot. The authorities are desperate to save the doctor who's been vanished into thin air.
A devastating explosion
One month later, the serenity of a sunny Sunday afternoon is shattered by the boom of a ground-shaking blast--followed by another seconds later. One of Atlanta's busiest and most important neighborhoods has been bombed--the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, an FBI field office, and the CDC.
A diabolical enemy
Medical examiner Sara Linton and her partner, Will Trent, an investigator with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, rush to the scene--and into the heart of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to destroy thousands of innocent lives. I’ve always had a problem with the character of Will, which this book did nothing to dispel. He’s supposed to be this great detective and works undercover with drug gangs etc which one would assume means that he can think on his feet and talk his way out of tricky situations and yet most of the time he can barely string a coherent sentence together. I also find it extremely unlikely that any law enforcement agency would send anyone undercover as an ex soldier when that person has little to no knowledge of being in the armed services or military jargon. This would put both the agent and the mission he was working on at risk. All that being said, I wish the author would give Sara enough spine to stand up to her judgemental overbearing mother, who I find extremely unlikable.
was very loose and not of much interest. I was disappointed in this one.
Top international reviews
In addition to that, Sara is even more annoying than ever. Who would day dream about sex while they are being held hostage by terrorist? It's just stupid writing.
Also, Karin Slaughter, when a song has a similar name as another song, it's not a "version" of that song. Its a completely different song. Sarah Smiles by Panic!ATD is not a "version" of Sara Smile by Hall and Oats.
Not to mention the sexy scenes between Sara and Will just keep getting more gross and less sexy.
I definitely wont be reading any more of her books.
Kind of spoiler, but not really.
I was also really happy that characters from Cop Town (Kate and Maggie) have crossed over into this series. I hope this means there’ll be a sequel to Cop Town or we’ll hear more from them in this series.
A month later, on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, medical examiner Sara Linton is at lunch with her boyfriend Will Trent, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. But the serenity of the summer’s day is broken by the wail of sirens.
Sara and Will are trained to help in an emergency. Their jobs – their vocations – mean that they run towards a crisis, not away from it. But on this one terrible day that instinct betrays them both. Within hours the situation has spiralled out of control; Sara is taken prisoner; Will is forced undercover. And the fallout will lead them into the Appalachian mountains, to the terrible truth about what really happened to Michelle, and to a remote compound where a radical group has murder in mind…
Karin Slaughter never disappoints and this was a page turner I couldn’t put down an devoured it in 2 days. Love the Will Trend series. This plot was such a great storyline that kept building and building. Love Will Trents character as he’s not your average Special Agent, he comes with his own personal demons. It shows you that no matter your background or experiences in life you can totally be what you want to if you put your mind to it.
Looking forward to the next one Karin and hopefully an invite to a very special occasion.
Her writing is brilliant, not only is her books filled with action, humor, love and difficult situations but it has complex Characters we've grown to love and care for!
I've been reading her books for years now and I'm never disspointed, I've loved seeing the characters develop and relationships grow, I can't wait to see what's happening between Sara and will and what they've been up to.
There's a reason karin slaughter is one of my favourite authors, her work is just fantastic.
If you've never read a book of hers before, then please do, you won't be disspointed!
I'll be patiently waiting for the next will and Sara book!
