Product Description

In the ring, I’m trained, powerful, and in control.

And that’s exactly how I built my legacy.

For years I’ve trained to fight, but no championship title in the world has prepared me for the most important fight of my life.

Out of the ring, I’m untamed and reckless.

Which is why my wife of nine years has filed for divorce.

I’m done with living up to the bad boy image my middleweight titles come with. Boxing is my life, but the money and the fame mean nothing to me without her by my side.

This fight is for the woman that I love.

And I can’t lose.

I won’t lose.

Starting off it's imperative to point out I loved the premise of the story as it tells what happens once a 12 year relationship begins crumbling. Julian and Natalia Rios started off as frenemies became lovers then husband and wife. Julian, a boxing champion, and Natalia, an aspiring actress have a rich history between them making their love sweet. I loved this and was excited at the prospect of seeing how that love maintained over the years and what's caused it to seemingly fall apart.

The Last Round quite frankly fell really short for me. The book itself was short only taking me about two hours to read. There was so much potential to really dig into the heart of both Julian and Natalia's issues and I felt the story moved so quickly I never really the "epicness" of their love and I wanted to so badly. When their marriage fails and the characters are left picking up the pieces working to find their ways back to each other, there was just no meat to the story. The events didn't feel organic to me but just rushed - this is the best to describe it. Also, the author uses this book to plug or her other works in a way I didn't feel was natural either.

The bright spots for me were the periods of Julian's vulnerability. He has flashbacks of he and Natalia's coupling that were very sweet because we see him looking back with the regret and vulnerability of losing her in the present. His actions near the end of the book were lovely and the epilogue was very sweet.

This book was very low drama and a very quick read. Digging into the meat of the story from author would have left me with a more epic feeling as the writing and characters were on point. The Last Round is a stand alone story told from the first person points of view of both Julian and Natalia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read - loved the characters!!! 29 December 2015

THE LAST ROUND is the second chance love story of Natalia and Julian Rios. When we meet the main characters, they have been married for 9 years. He is a professional boxer who just got out of rehab and Natalia is an aspiring actress who just got her big break.

The two met in high school and since then Natalia has always been there for Julian, through the death of his mother and his career. But the lifestyle he is leading and rumors that surround him have made Natalia doubt Julian and their marriage and when she files for divorce, Julian is blindsided. But he knows that she is the only one for him and he makes out to prove it to her.

The readers will see that Natalia and Julian are good for each other from day one but like most married couples, they have to face the obstacles of married life. Only their situation is intensified because their relationship is on display for the world to see that puts more pressure, doubt and guilt on both of them. They will need to work through their issues and figure out if their relationship is worth the fight.

THE LAST ROUND was a very quick and easy read for me (not realizing it was a novella). It had a good storyline and I really liked Natalia and Julian. I found it unique that the author incorporated one of her former books in this story. The writing in this book was very good. I did feel the difficulties they went through and how they handled them were true to form. Since I really liked the characters, I wish there was more details to their love story. There were flashbacks throughout and I was hoping to get more of them so I could know more about the beginning of their story. I definitely recommend it.

I was very lucky to be able to read this book early! I am a huge fan of Montes’ and have really enjoyed other books by this author. I really enjoyed this book. It was a very different story line for me, one that I don’t think I’ve read before and that was so refreshing.
This was listed or talked about as a second chance romance. It was about a professional boxer and his wife and their struggles. Rehab, paparazzi, careers, and so much more come between these two. Will they get a happily ever after or will the two high school sweet hearts break? Read it to find out! You won’t be disappointed!
This was a quick read for me because I was so into it. I wanted to know how this story was going to end. I recommend this book to anyone who loves high school sweethearts, second chance romance, and true love stories.

I enjoyed the story, I loved the concept of it. I liked the premise. But I didn’t have enough depth or character connection this novel had potential of being one of my favorites. If this story was longer it would of been on my favorites of the year list.

Also I felt the characters acted more younger and married for a short time than actual 12 years. And the characters held some appeal, they weren’t all that bad. I loved seeing both sides of the story, the writing was amazing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted more I left like it was missing something 28 December 2015

The Last Round was written in a dual pov which I really like reading both sides, it went from past to present were able to feel the emotions of both Julian and Natalia they formed a bound that started in high school has friends then grew into more Julian was a championship boxer and Natalia was actress there relationship was an open book to the world, they shared in limelight which took a toll on there relationship. When faced with a second chance at love will it be enough or is it to late

Julian and Natalia both come from a strong Hispanic family dynamics that plays a big part in there lives, they both have lost there way due to their careers but there family is what shows them what truly is important, it's a realistic, heartbreaking to see what a couple goes through to hold a marriage that is struggling. I felt that story was going somewhere then it just ended It needed more it was missing something, this is my second book from Emmy and the first one was so much different
