Cassey and her brothers have been through a bit and now Cassey is trying to save the family business without having to sell to a big time resort developer. This is a sweet romance where you see the characters grow and break down emotional barriers they have. Totally enjoyed every page of this.

Last Resort is my 1st read from Jill Sanders, I have had this sitting in my Kindle for quite a while and decided to give it a go. Glad I did, it was a sweet read with the HEA I needed. My only concern, and I use that term loosely, is that although I enjoyed the story itself it just didn’t blow my mind. This should not put you off reading it, I guess I just wanted that little bit more, that pop in my stomach.

For main character, Cassey Grayton life hasn’t always been perfect. As an abused child, hidden, beaten and mistreated , being saved by her guardian angel and starting her new life that the Grayton’s was a dream come true. With a sister , 3 brothers and loving parents, life was finally happy for her. Now fifteen years later, she is owner of her own boardwalk restaurant. A lit of time, sweat and tears are seeing it open and flourish. Everything is perfect until Luke Calloway shows up all hot and gorgeous and wanting to buy her new restaurant. Seething Cassey, all but throws Luke out of her office but not before feelings a fluttering in her heart from this drop dead gorgeous man with the bluest eyes.

Luke has been sent by his father to buy out the boardwalk restaurant, he doesn’t care what he has to do, he just wants it all closed down. As owner of Crystal Shores resort, money is no option and what Jeffery Calloway wants Jeffery gets. Well he is about to have one hell of a fight on his hands with miss Grayton. She is not scared of a fight, and with 3 overbearing brother’s she has plenty of weight on her side.

What neither Cass of Luke expected, was the feelings that were clear towards each other.

This was quite an enjoyable read but it was quite unexpected when Cassey had a fling with her enemy Luke within the first few chapters. I was expecting him to turn into a real b but it was a rather different outcome. Also with his dad changing his views after a heart attack.

Casseys childhood was horrific & im glad she ended up with a loving family & her brothers will be in future books. Maybe also an update on this couple.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want more! 12 February 2015

It’s been 15 years since Cassey was saved from the hell that was her life for her first seven years. Now at 22, she is looking forward to starting her future as a business owner by fixing up the run down dance club that had been in her family for years. With help from her brothers and their knowledge of carpentry and her business knowledge, she opens what quickly becomes one of the most popular spots on the boardwalk but when a local hotel owner sets his sights on taking over the boardwalk, he makes trouble for not just her but other business owners as well. She’s determined to keep her business and won’t be backed into a corner and forced to sell.

Luke had never been his father’s favorite. That title had belonged to his brother but he’s determined to make his father see that he can be a great businessman as well so he sets his sights on the Cassey’s Bar & Grill but it only takes one look to know that his plans were going up in smoke because there was no way that he could take anything from this women.

Cassey’s childhood story made me cry! It was a horrible start with a happy ending. I loved her relationship with her brothers and I truly hope that this book is the beginning to another fantastic series by Jill Sanders because not only to I want more of her brothers but I also want to know what happened to her sister.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet romance 29 September 2015

Cassey was taken from her home 15 years ago and saved by her guardian angel Lilly. Years after being saved, she's now the owner of a bar and grill on the boardwalk, and has a loving family that is there to support her in what she does. Flash forward two years later and her business is having problems, and the big resort owners are trying to buy her out. Cassey refuses to sell her land, and when Luke, one of the buyers enters her life, she does everything she can to ignore the attraction to him, and not let him in.

Luke and Cassey are definitely attracted to one another, and the more Luke gets to know Cassey the more he knows what his father wants him to do is wrong. He is falling hard for her, yet she doesn't want commitment. I loved seeing Luke squirm his way into Cassey's life, and her loosening some of the walls she built up around herself. When she starts to open up about her past and her childhood with Luke, I knew no matter how much she denied it, she had feelings for him as well.

At times their relationship seems to move fast, but then again, this book moves pretty fast throughout the weeks and months that it covers. Luke learns a lot about himself being with Cassey and starts to work on his own goals as well as help Cassey save her business. The two of them opened up a lot in this book and we got to see both characters step out of their comfort zone and grow a lot in this story.

I adored Luke and Cassey together and seeing her brothers accept Luke like he was one of them. As much as Cassey tries, Luke is a force to be reckoned with, and he definitely makes her fall in love with him. I really liked how once Luke got to know Cassey his father's wishes seemed to disappear, and all he cared about was keeping this girl happy.

This is a sweet romance that will definitely give you the feels. I loved Luke and my heart went out to Cassey and her brothers with everything they have been through. They all deserve their happily ever afters, and I can't wait to read the other books in this series so I can hopefully see that. Luke and Cassey's story definitely finishes with a HEA and I couldn't be happier with how Last Resort ended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Abused child-guardian angel-foster parents-well adjusted adult 6 February 2016

This story starts with a 7 year old escaping from abusive parents. She is quickly found by her social worker and taken to a foster home that cares for similar children.
Fast forward to an adult Cassie opening her Bar and Grill. With the help of her 3 foster brothers she is able to remodel her Aunt's old night club into the bar and grill of her dreams.
A couple years later a man is trying to buy her out. She is refusing so he sends his son to get it done.
Ms Sanders writes a very easy to read story. The hard part is 1 finding places to put the book down and 2 finding that it is ending. I would recommend this book.
It is for M over 18 due to sexual content
2.0 out of 5 stars Passive-Aggressive bloke pretended to do his fathers bidding (buy out the bar) while wooing the bar's owner 17 April 2017
By Guy Reviewing Romance and More - Published on

Last Resort started off with an interesting premise but failed on multiple levels by giving us a Male Main Character that is simply a passive-aggressive doormat, and resolved his problem for him (i.e. a deus ex machina) so he can have his happily ever after.

Cassey had a tough childhood and the bar and grill she operated on the boardwalk was the best thing that happened to her until some rich bastard stopped the public shuttle service and drove away half the business. Now that rich bastard's son Luke is in her bar asking her if she wanted to sell. Well, he can go to hell. However, Cassey didn't count on Luke being so deliciously handsome, and cocky, and knew just the right things to say. And Luke wanted her. Luke was told by his father... don't come back without the deed (to Cassey's place), and Cassey's bar is on the prime part of the boardwalk, that his father wanted to buy up, and it was obvious from walks that his father played dirty, which infuriated him. He should have been the son with no responsibilities. His brother was the golden child, but his brother... is gone. And he refuses to compromise his own values just to do his father's bidding, esp. when it comes to hurting Cassey...

As I said before, the problem was resolved for him, and he basically fobbed his father off until his father changed his mind (due to a stroke). That is just bad plotting!

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh 3 July 2016
By Alaina's Humble Opinion - Published on

The story was a little tedious and repetitive. The h is described as being one of those untrusting/angst/short fling only girls, so why does she act like any other female looking for a relationship. And yes - even though she refused to label it a "relationship" in her mind - it was in fact a relationship. And for a character so untrusting she was quick to forgive.

The bigger problem for me was a complete lack of conflict. The story was stale. IMO without conflict there is no tension to keep a really good story building to an exiting climax that drives the reader to a satisfying ending... Like one of those books where you wish it didn't have to end. This was not one of those books.

The sad thing is there were several points in the story that I thought would lead to conflict.

This wasn't a bad book... I just found it to be meh
