Product Description

He was just a boy.
And I was just a girl.
But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?

Up and coming band Willow Creek is back in their hometown for the summer. For the drummer, Maddox Wade, this summer was meant for writing music and playing gigs.

Falling in love was not part of the plan.

One look at Emma Burke and those plans cease to matter.

Emma is quiet and guarded. She’s still hurt from her father walking out two years ago. She doesn’t want to trust Maddox, but with his dark hair, smoldering good looks, and infectious smile he’s impossible to resist.

Together Maddox and Emma embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures and first love.
Everything is perfect…or so Emma thinks.

There are things she doesn’t know, and when she finds out the truth it might shatter everything she’s built with Maddox.

No one said love was easy, and for Maddox and Emma it just might be impossible.

This is a Young Adult book. The following books in the series will be New Adult.

*This book is a standalone within a series

I absolutely loved this light hearted fun loving read of Maddox and Emma. I was total sucked in, waiting for the bomb shell to hit that was going to turn poor Emma's life upside down, as my heart was going to break along side hers.

Last to Know is the first book in the Willow Creek series, based on drummer Maddox and quiet Emma who had every intention of spending the summer curled up and home reading her books and playing her piano. A day at the fair, a chance meeting with Maddox and she is set for a summer of fun. But Maddox is hiding a secret, one that is going to test the strength of there relationship.

I am diving into book 2, cannot wait to read more of the brooding Mathias.

Defiantly recommend for a light hearted, enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this YA romance Emma and Maddox clicked from the start from friends to lovers and it was sweet to watch there journey there was a big secret that Maddox was keeping from Emma which caused the drama but it wasn't an angsty book so it was resolved fast really would of loved dual POV to see what Maddox was thinking and feeling also fade to black sex scene but it is YA so I understand sweet epilogue and I definitely can't wait to read Mathias and remy's book 4 YA stars!!!

Couldn't put it down! Love this book and I'm loving the series. The only negative (not that it is really one!) is that it was aimed at young teens. Will read anything from this author!

I really enjoy this first book in the Willow Creek series. I like that the main characters started out as friends first before getting serious about each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Summer Read!! 30 July 2016
By Lindsay Marie Miller - Published on

As a fan of the Trace + Olivia series, I was really looking forward to reading about the Willow Creek boys. I’ve heard so much about Maddox and Mathias, so I couldn’t wait to jump right into this one. Like every book I’ve ever read by Micalea Smeltzer, Last to Know had me hooked from the start, and I loved every minute of Maddox and Emma’s love story.

After meeting at a local fair, seventeen-year-old Emma Burke finds herself living the best summer of her life with Maddox Wade. He’s cool, confident, gorgeous and charming, plays the drums and has a pet hedgehog named Sonic. Where Emma is hesitant and shy, Maddox is confident and thrill-seeking. Together, they are sweet and likable, everything it means to be young and in love.

If you are a fan of YA Romance, I highly recommend Last to Know as a light summer read. You’ll enjoy the steady pacing and instant chemistry between the characters. There’s conflict towards the end that is bound to keep you up reading. I had a massive book hangover the next day.

But it was totally worth it ; )

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous, Heartfelt, and an Awesome Start to the Willow Creek Series! 5 November 2015

"Last to Know" was an amazing start to the Willow Creek series, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Maddox and Emma's story. Maddox and Emma were phenomenal characters, and I couldn't help but fall in love with them from the very beginning. Maddox was sweet, kind, funny, and extremely handsome, plus he could sing and play instruments; all winning attributes in my opinion. ;) Emma was somewhat shy and sweet, but could be sarcastic and humorous when she wanted to; plus she was a book nerd, which I loved. :) I loved both of their personalities and they complemented each other extremely well. Their chemistry together was also excellent, and I enjoyed their banter with one another. The storyline was awesome and I couldn't help but sit back and enjoy the adventures Maddox and Emma went on together. They were very relatable characters, and I loved going on their journey with them. It was a fun and wild ride, and one I wouldn't take back anytime soon. The secondary characters were wonderful as well, and I will be looking forward to reading Mathias, Hayes, and Ezra's stories in the books to come. The only part of the book I didn't really care for was the conflict. I thought Emma blew the situation way out of proportion and was a bit overly dramatic about it. I would have been angry and hurt as well, but I still think she could have handled it better. Micalea Smeltzer's writing style was once again amazing, and I truly loved reading "Last to Know!"

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful start to the series! 8 July 2015

What an amazingly sweet story. Last To Know is the first book in the Willow Creek Series but can be read as a stand alone. This book is more YA than NA but still very enjoyable for those of you looking for a sweet romance with some angst.

Emma has been drug to the fair with her best friend and complete opposite Saddie and is ditched when she decides she doesn't want to watch the band Willow Creek perform and decides to sit back and relax. When the concert is over Saddie is no where to be found but the charming Maddox is. Maddox and Emma start up a quick friendship and next thing she knows she's going on her first date with him.

Maddox and Emma are adorable together. He's funny, outgoing, and amazing, and she's quiet, quirky, and sweet. Together these two are hilarious and I loved watching Maddox teaching Emma to live. Emma and Maddox's first date is quite hilarious and I couldn't help but laugh at the things they got themselves into.

Throughout the summer these two build a relationship and you definitely see Emma coming out of her shell. Seeing her with Maddox is amazing, but you know things are going to go down hill. As the reader you are able to put things together that Emma hasn't, and it broke my heart when she finds out who Maddox really is

Not only is this book sweet and adorable, but it is quite funny as well. Maddox and his hedgehog Sonic are quite hilarious and watching Emma and Maddox interact with Sonic or with anyone brought a smile to my face. I loved all the wild and crazy things that Maddox got Emma to do, all while showing her how much he really cares about her. Both of these characters have a bad past and seeing them open up to one another was amazing to read. My heart broke for both of them, but they both have become stronger people because of what has happened to them in the past

Maddox's brother Mathias is a different story, and I'm definitely wanting to jump right into his book to see more of why he's so moody. He does come through though when it matters, but he can definitely be a jerk that I wanted to strangle most of the time. Ezra and Hayes are amazing as well and you can tell they truly have opened up their little family to include Emma as well.

One thing I wish was that Emma would have been more open with her best friend, it was like she was living two different lives and didn't want to share any information about Maddox to anyone. Her mom obviously knew since she had met him, but still... her best friend (even though she wasn't that great of a friend all the time) should have known.

This book takes place over summer between Emma's junior and senior year of high school, and man do I wish I would have had the experiences she did during that summer. Her and Maddox's relationship is beautiful and built on an amazing friendship. I love these two together and seeing Maddox with Emma.

I am definitely hooked on this series and will be diving right into Mathias's story ASAP. I need more of these guys and hopefully we'll see more of Maddox and Emma as well. The last "bonus scene" in this book was Laugh Out Loud hilarious and had me missing these characters before the book was finally over.

Micalea Smeltzer did an amazing job of writing this story and making you fall in love with the characters involved. The writing is beautiful and I was definitely hooked. I can't wait to read more books by her!
3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat predictable but still good 24 February 2015

This book was a YA and I really enjoyed it. It was just maddening at times because we all knew how it was going to end. EVERYBODY knew who he was....we all knew he was the drummer to Willow Creek. I get that works for the title, Last to Know but really? It was a little predictable. I guess I wished for a little more surprise. To me it was all a waiting game for when she found out. I kept holding my breath. Don't get me wrong...I liked the story, I did. I just wanted it to be....more. I'm still planning on reading more in the series. I mean I loved the other guys. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that with these NA books they will be a little less predictable.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Sweet & Adorable story of New Love! 27 January 2016

Emma hasn't dated nor had a boyfriend and she was perfectly content on spending her summer reading books and lounging around until one day her best friend Sadie drags her to a local fair but Emma has no interest in the concert Sadie wants to attend so they part ways. Sadie goes to watch the band Willow Creek perform while Emma hits up a vendor for some food with the plan of meeting up after to hang out
All does not go as planned ... it's getting late Emma notices and she starts to panick that maybe Sadie forgot all about her which kind of ticks her off since she is her ride home. Emma is noticed by a guy while wandering around looking for Sadie, his name is Maddox and Emma has captured his attention. He is intrigued by the beauty so he tries joking, even some harmless flirting to get Emma to relax and hang out with him a bit while waiting for her friend to come find her. By fate Maddox drives her home that same night after the flirting, making her laugh, and his kindness they set up a date and from here the adventure begins.

Emma is new to the dating world and all the emotions running through her. Maddox has her insides all twisted up scared and excited at the same time.
Maddox can't stop thinking about Emma and wanting her in his life. She makes him happy and feel relaxed whenever she's around but can he finally let his guard down and let her know what he's hiding.

Can Emma open her heart and let Maddox in?!? What is Maddox's secret?!? Will Maddox be able to convince Emma some risks are worth taking?!?
