Having read all the of the books that this book make reference to, (Medstar 1+2, Darth Maul Shadow Hunter, Corusant Nights Series) I would say that this is the most disappointing of them all. It has a slow beginning with many many reflections on characters. Points of the story seem constructed to give the perception of more depth to the characters instead of actually building a solid ending to what is quite a long series. Doing this at the end of series - when the characters have already had 3/4 books to show/build and or recognise their own personallity - makes for some slow reading.
Midway through the book it picks up, people start to die, lines become blurred and you're not really sure where exactly the main characters stand on the issues presented throughout the book. This I feel was intended to bring some suspense to the end of this series but i feel like he undermines the sure footing that each character has already displayed through out the series.
The end of the book is what every star wars fan could ask for; dark side powers, crazy droids, Vader, Xixor, Pavan. However, I would have to say in my opinion the end of this book goes over the top in many many ways. Throughout this series we haven't been presented with any ott massive extreme in displays of fire power, force use or of equipment. the end of this book has more mention of the use of the force than in the rest of the series put together. I would have appreciated a very clever ending instead of an all out abuse of all the tricks star wars has to offer.
All in all, had to read it for closure, wouldn't read it again although i would highly recommend reading the rest of the series.
