This is Austen. There is no bad Austen--OK, maybe Mansfield Park--but it gets downgraded to three stars for having no annotation. When I pay for annotation I expect some.
Other than that--well, it's a short "epistolary" novel--that is, all told in letters-- which Austen herself copied out to preserve among her juvenilia, but never submitted to a publisher. A dashing widow of dubious morals attempts to find herself a suitable husband while marrying off her daughter to a wealthy older idiot. Chaos ensues. This is the basis for the recent (2016) movie Love and Friendship. It's fun, but don't set your expectations too high. Young Jane wasn't up to the material. Worth reading with some of the characteristic Austen touches, but it's not Pride & Prejudice or even Persuasion.
