3.0 out of 5 stars A bit too wordy, makes a story just okay. 17 April 2015
By Tracy T - Published on Amazon.com

This story was good. I liked the H and H quite a bit. Claire was doing her very best to be an independent woman for that time period, with opening her own coffee shop, albeit a bit illegally. LOL He was rich, handsome and didn't think a woman could do anything on her own without a man. He learned different of course.

The chemistry between Claire and Cyrus was good, it felt true and not forced. There was a nicely written sex scene so it's not a rated G book but definitely not erotic either.

The story line and plot were good, but wow there was a lot of blah blah blah nonsense going on throughout the entire book. It could have been shortened by 2 hours, eliminating all that blah blah blah and would have been a much better story. All that blah blah blah just brought the story down in my opinion.

See how that blah blah blah is annoying to read in my review? Yep, that's what it was like in the book.

There was some dialogue, not enough in my opinion. But what dialogue there was, was good.

As for the narration it was great! I really like Marian Hussy. She does the men's voices well and gives everyone their own distinct voice. Her reading voice is very nice too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! 3 April 2017

I loved this book with it's twists and outright surprises. I loved the chemistry between Cyrus and Claire and the independent spirit she has, to want to own her own coffee shop and go it alone.

How can you not love Cyrus with his desire to protect and keep safe those he loves, and how can you not love Claire with her sweetness, kindness and her desire for entrepreneurship in that time? These two are perfect for each other and I enjoyed all the other characters and happenings in the story.

I'm already looking for another of her books to read since I just finished this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book 3 April 2017

I very much enjoyed this book. It is a loose version of the Cinderella story. Loved the strong heroine Claire knew what she was wanted and went for it. Cyrus wasn't afraid to put his past out for Claire to know. Very well written book. Can't wait to read The first book in the series. Kind of backward I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars They both met their match... 17 April 2015
By Katie - Published on Amazon.com

I really enjoyed this booked from Gina Conkle. A relatively new author I'm glad I stumbled across. I've read all 3 of her books available on Amazon now and look forward to the next one. A lovely story. Both Claire and Cyrus meet their match in this story. Neither are perfect, but they aren't particularly damaged either, life has battered them a bit, but they've overcome and survived, and thrived. The story is well written, believable, and also romantic without being sugary sweet. If you like Joanna Bourne, Courtney Milan, Sherry Thomas, Meredith Duran and the like you'll enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully written hero 23 June 2015
By Jessica F. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I adored this book. Ms. Conkle writes heroines that I want to be and heroes that I lust after - love when an author does that. It really is a spin on Cinderella, without going overboard on the fairy-tale references. It was subtle and well done. The plot pushed the story along, but the way the hero changed really drives this story. Ms. Conkle has a style all her own, but it does remind me of some of Eloisa James' earlier works - a lot of beautifully written pages saturated with description and easily transports me to the Georgian era.
