Lady (A Dark(ish) Faerie Tale Book 2) Kindle Edition
Tabitha has so much to learn about living with a family, and she makes her grandfather and cousins terribly uncomfortable when she doesn’t fit in. She was punished for looking free people in the eyes all her life, so it’s understandable she has trouble learning to maintain eye contact. And making decisions is impossible — from what she wants for breakfast, to when she’s tired enough for bed, and everything in between.
Her grandfather’s horses don’t judge, and working with them finally helps her begin to find a path towards figuring out this new life, where clothes must be worn all day, every day.
Just when she’s resigned herself to this life and is certain she’ll never enjoy sex again, an invitation arrives to attend one of the Winter Queen’s balls — along with a fancy gown that raises more questions than answers.
Lady is book two in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy, and should be read in the correct order.

Meanwhile, Tabby continues to discover and come to terms with both the public and private person she is. Her course is clear to the reader but this story is not about the destination. It’s all about the journey, and its intense to say the least.
Insights into Mab continue to be surprising and pleasing at the same time. I guess this is where the “ish”comes into the title suffix of “Dark-ish Faerie Tale”, for while she maintains the Winter Queen persona for all her subjects, and is also unquestionably Tabby’s Dominant, she is also a sister, friend and woman in love with moments of insecurity and fear, just like any average human or fae. Sorry Mab, but it makes you a completely sympathetic character. Live with it, my queen!
This continues to be a whirlwind read; a perfect blend of the fantastical, the relatable and the potential for cross-over to other related series, even if only in this reader’s wildest imagination.
Tabby has to learn how to live as a free person, making her own choices, and with a family for the first time in her life. It is a sad time for Tabby and a happy time. She misses her Queen terribly yet likes having a family. Her conflict between how her life was and how her life is now is shown quite well. Once she starts becoming secure in her actions, Mab throws her for a loop and invites her to the Winter Ball with a special dress (to coordinate with Mab’s gown).
We learn so much more about Mab in this book. She wants Tabby as a lover and girlfriend. Tabby has to step up in order fill that need. Can she do it – be what Mab needs and find fulfillment in that role while still maintaining her free personhood and family ties? What about Rowan? How will he figure into their relationship?
I am really looking forward to the next book!
