this lock is ok. the bluetooth can be slow to connect leaving you standing at the door for a while then requiring you to open the app to engage and lock or unlock which isnt as seamless as i would have hoped. then i found out the gateway isnt supported or available in Australia which is disappointing. i like that fact it is still a keyed lock and look subtle, but there has to be better options.

Good quality deadlock, well made hardware. Love the fact that I can re-key it and use the same key for all my normal Kwikset deadlocks (I have three). Also love the IFTTT integration, I have set it up to switch on a lamp in our entry hallway if someone enters after sunset. Only have 4 stars because the touch to unlock is a bit hit and miss. The lock can be recalibrated to improve this however didn't help much in my case. Sometimes it locks/unlocks immediately other times it takes more than one touch. Usually if it is struggling, pulling my phone out of my pocket will make it work. This is a nuisance when loaded up with bags for example. I've decided can live with it though. Would like to see Google Assistant integration.

Alexa app does not support kevo in Australia

Although it says in the description that the second generation kevo lock works with the Alexa app via the kevo hub, this is for the US and Canada only. The Australian Alexa app does not carry the kevo skill. When you try to buy the kevo hub via the kevo app you find out that they only ship to the US and Canada. I have a kevo first generation and wanted to buy the hub to link it to Alexa. Hopefully Amazon Australia will update the info for this product.

Beware!!! no support in Australia for Kwikset Kevo. If this device fails (and it regularly does) you will need to have your conventional key to open the door. A keyless entry that I must always carry a key is pointless. My lock keep rebooting (cycling yellow lights) and called support and they stated that the only way in was to call a locksmith and drill the lock. In either case, they were not liable as they only support locks in USA and Canada. This is even more worrying as they would not accept liability if say it malfunctioned and opened... According to their support desk they have no authorised distributors or resellers outside of US/Canada and therefore all warranty and liability was void. I pointed out that the app was on itunes Australia would lead to to believe the contrary. Anyone would be mad to buy any of this companies products outside the USA/Canada and especially for something as critical as home security. Poor form #KwiksetCorp

I would give it no stars if I could. It will leave you frustrated and fighting with your frustrated family members

The ekeys fail daily. Sometimes it works from your pocket with app open in background most times it doesn’t. Then you need to pull out the phone and make sure the app is open to the location of the lock. Then it works. It’s a useless piece of junk.

All the reviews say it works with Alexa but it’s only when you buy the lock and go through the app to buy kevo plus you find it is only available for the USand Canada. So false reviews and dodgy advertising

For anyone outside North America this lock isn’t worth 2 cents.

Happy with my Kwikset Kevo (2nd Gen)

Overall I am very please with the Kevo Gen 2 lock. It was easy to install (replaced a lockwood lock). Setup was easy. Functionality has been good once I used it for a while and know how far away to stand. Closer is not better because it has to determine which side of the door you are standing on. The first lock I received was very intermitant but the replacement worked perfectly. I like that you can send e-keys to other to allow access either ongoing or one time. It does not connect to the internet which I feel removes a security risk.

We purchased this lock for our vacation condo that we frequently rent out to guests. We wanted it for the convenience and control it offered with the ability to send scheduled keys to our guests for their stays. We also bought a fob for our housekeepers and the hub so that we could monitor the lock remotely via wi-fi. I was super pumped about this system. My husband was skeptical from the beginning. I talked him into it and defended it over and over again. I am now changing my tune (I hate it when he’s right). This lock has been nothing but trouble since the day we installed it. The app is buggy and needs to be restarted and even on occaision re-installed to operate the lock. Even with the app working properly, the lock still doesn’t respond sometimes. The batteries began to fail less than 3 months after install, despite ensuring that the lock was properly installed and free to move. Many of our guests have found that it isn’t intuitive to use in the first place—the flashing lights and colors are basically meaningless if you don’t have a decoder to tell you what’s going on. We have fielded many late night calls from guests unable to enter the house after a long day, culminating in a call last night because the lock was stuck in an infinite reset loop (spinning amber lights, which according to the Kevo website, means the lock is rebooting). I couldn’t access it remotely during this crisis which completely defeated the purpose of the $100 hub, and the fob didn’t work either— another $30 wasted. I drove 2.5 hours to let our guests into our condo with the mechanical key at 0130 in the morning. According to the guests who checked out this morning, the lock is still spinning amber, so the batteries will probably die soon as well. Kwikset will be getting a call from me today, but in the meantime, please don’t make the mistake of purchasing this lock. Kevo has a lot of work to do before it’s appropriately useful for this basic necessity of home use.
I guess the one star is for its aesthetic appeal. It looks nice on the door. That’s the nicest thing I can say about it right now.

So in case you are wondering, yes the nay-sayers are correct in saying that the reliability is not 100%. I tried both my phone, as well as the key fob, and both have reliability issues. The key fob seems slightly more reliable than the phone app.

One thing I discovered is after you go through the calibration steps, make sure you stand the same distance from the door with your keys in the same location (ex left pocket) every time; if the keys are in a different distance/location than the door it reduces reliability. I noticed I calibrated the key fob standing an arms length away, but when using it normally was standing closer to the door. I started standing an arms length away and it works more reliably now; I might re-calibrate it standing closer to the door. The online support says you don't need to calibrate the second gen Kevo, but the manual it comes with in the box does include calibration instructions.

Do NOT leave your house without an old-fashioned key.

I also got the Kevo Plus hub. It is much more reliable than the touch to unlock feature, but requires taking out your phone and opening the app to use.

Do not buy it.. it simply doesn’t work. You have to tap it 4 times before it unlocks. 90% of the time you are better just using the keys like a normal lock. Updating software, contacting the manufacturer doesn’t work. Save yourself the pain and run from this product! It’s the worst product I’ve bought since I can remember... if you still decide to buy it, good luck

Not flawless, but I've been more than happy

I've had mine for 2 years and will give my impressions of the lock - good and bad.

This is the only lock on the market with touch to open. It is incredibly convenient when coming home with 2 bags of shopping. I just press my arm against the lock, let Kevo unlock and then press down on the handle with my elbow. Truly hands free. All other products either need you to take your phone out and use the app, or have a code pad.

I dislike code pads as someone could see you enter your code or could even look at which keys are smudged/worn to guess your code. Codes are also hard to input when carrying large items.

Geofencing is not secure. Phone GPS just isn't that accurate and locks that open if you are standing "just outside your door" will often open with you in the house. Kevo uses a bluetooth proximity instead. I have found it to be remarkably accurate - and I have tried to find a flaw in it. No matter where I leave my phone inside the house (even sitting right next to the lock), I have never been able to get it to unlock. I am completely convinced by Kevo's security.

And now the bad. About a year ago, Android presumably changed something. Now, each time I reset my phone, Kevo doesn't work. After a reset, I need to start the Kevo app. I can then close the app straight away, and Kevo will work until the next time I reset my phone. Not a huge issue, but it is annoying.

Friends have struggled with Kevo, especially those using iPhones. Most of them can't get the proximity touch to unlock to work, whereas my girlfriend and I have had no issues. I suspect Kevo re-calibration would help, but for occasional users, this isn't justified. Most have been unable to unlock the door through the app, which is sufficient for someone coming to water my plants when I'm away.

I wish the execution of this product was a little better. Even with its flaws, I am still very impressed with it. There is no other product that achieves the same.

First one was dead on arrival (touch-to-open wouldn't work). But the second one came and it works flawlessly. I've only owned it for 2 days. If it consistently works like these couple of days, this is just awesome. The Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) range is so impressive. In my upstairs bedroom, across so many walls, it can still connect to the front door and lock/unlock (via app); the range is even better than my Wifi. Being able to touch to lock and unlock with just the phone/fob is very convenient. I will still carry a key with me just in case, but in normal situation, not having to take out the key is a great concept.
