Elizabeth's usual writing flair reigns, in this her latest addition to the Rhymes With Love series. I've yet to meet an Elizabeth Boyle book that I haven't enjoyed, Read it by itself or after the others, this story is thoroughly enjoyable. The only hard part about reading Elizabeth's stories is waiting for the next one

It does follow on from the previous book, but that was good too. Am looking forward to reading the next one now!

Proper meets rogue
Reviewed in Canada on 1 January 2017Verified Purchase
I loved this novel - but I have loved most of the novels that Elizabeth Boyle has written in her Rhymes with Love Series and The Bachelor Chronicles Series. I like the humorous style of writing that makes the drama almost funny as well - the characters and their reoccurring roles in novels make it seem like you're part of the novel cheering on favorite characters while worrying about others. I'm a fan! This novel in particular was a follow-up from the last so it was nice to see Piers back and getting better. Livy and Tuck's story was wildly different with Tuck starting out as a rogue but Livy dropping her proper role to become a sensational rogue in her own style.

WONDERFUL HERO AND LOVELY HEROINE EQUALS TERRIFIC STORY
Reviewed in the United States on 8 February 2017Verified Purchase
One of the many things I like about Ms Boyle's books is the lovely writing. And her sense of humor makes everything even better.
Lavinia and Louisa have come to town for their first season. They are daughters of a woman who has a terrible reputation. Both girls are proper young ladies who are not only beautiful but intelligent and charming.
Those qualities will not mean much to the “ton”.
When Tuck is asked to dance with Lavinia to get her off to a good start, he acts like a jerk. This is not the only time in the book when he makes a choice which is not the best choice he could have made. But, his charm overcomes nearly everything for Lavinia.
In reality, Tuck is an honorable and good man. His life has been colored by the perception that on a whim, he chose not to go to fight in the Napoleonic War. The results of his choice, one of his best friends is dead and the other best friend has a permanent injury.
The plot includes surprises on a regular basis. There are many family secrets. The surprises are in many families.
There is also a villain who is really hateful because he likes it. He seems to have personal animosity toward men who are honorable, likable and good.
The character development in the story is super. Ms Boyle has created people who are likable, interesting and entertaining.
Lavinia and Tuck are very strong characters. They made me want them to find a happy ending and overcome their obstacles.
Tuck is tap dancing as fast as he can to try and repair the damage he has done to Lavinia. It seems that every time he makes a little progress something happens to put a hurdle in his way. His dialog with Lavinia is terrific. Actually his conversations with everyone are quick, witty and entertaining.
Lavinia believes she must be a more proper woman than everyone else to over come her mother's behavior. She has rules by which she lives her life. Her rules are based on the fact that all of the best people are good. Before too long, she learns she is not as proper as she believed and many of the best people are not really “best”.
The secondary characters add a great deal to the story. Most of these people are humorous, and the dialog holds the reader's interest. There is a texture which is created by the interplay of characters amid the action. The entire story has a feeling of humor and lightness.
This is the 5th part of a series. But, it works wonderfully as a stand alone. The action is well illustrated and carried forward.
I am a fan of Ms Boyle and this book simply confirms that my admiration is well earned.

From proper to scandalous
Reviewed in the United States on 29 January 2019Verified Purchase
I do not know if it was because it was a busy weekend but I had a more difficult time to immerse at first in this story but by the end I did enjoyed this read as much as the previous book.
Plus I hoped to see the romance about Lord Charleston and Lady Avenue find its conclusion.
Whatever, it was an entertaining and funny read with a prim and proper young miss letting things go loose to find her true self while the hero has to reconcile his past with the present and accept he can’t change what was done but still go on.
Lavinia is the twin of Louisa, the heroine of The Viscount Who Lived Down The Lane. While one is meddling and want to have nothing to do with society, the other wants to fit even if it means silencing her inner self.
Lavinia lives by lists, compilation of what is proper to do and above all to avoid scandal and gossip but all the lists will never be able to prevent the walking-scandal they are by simply being their mother’s daughters.
It was painful to watch them being shunned and all those by link associated to them.
Alaster Rowland or Tuck, Lord Charleton presumptive’s heir lives with his wits and a small allowance to make ends meet, and most of the time it is not enough. And things get worse when he wagers everything on a drunken night. Now is he to transform a rejected lady in a diamond of the first water.
I loved Tuck, he is loyal to the heart to those he cares and accepts to be seen as someone he is not if it means protecting them. He makes mistakes, lot of them but he never gives up.
Lavinia at first was not my favorited of the twins but she grows up during the story, going from the rigid miss to a young woman who will throw everything she thought right to the window to get her man even when he deceived her.
In all, a full of actions romance with some very funny moments.

This is the second part of the story of twin sisters and their foray to London to find husbands during the Season. The first sister is successful at finding and marrying her hero but Lavinia, the second sister, meets with nothing but disaster and is in danger of being sent back home in disgrace. Then she gets help from a handsome ne'erdowell called Tuck and meets with success. The twins also discover secrets of their mother's past and help catching some nasty criminals. A charming story.

Unfortunately Rather Boring
Reviewed in the United States on 15 June 2017Verified Purchase
I liked this book but it was surprising hard to get into. Mostly because the first half of it was a rehash of the previous book but from another character's perspective.
I liked Lavinia and I liked Tuck but I didn't love them the way I have loved some of Ms. Boyle's other characters.
I wish I could say that 'boring' isn't the word that comes to mind when trying to find the right adjective for this book, but it's the first word that comes to mind.
I'm really hoping that the next and final book in the Rhymes With Love series, is much better than this one. I loved the first two novels. The third and fourth books were good but not great and this one was, well, rather boring.
Also, in a note to the readers in the back of the previous book in the series, Ms. Boyle promised that we would get to see the beloved characters from the first three novels and that did not happen in this book. We briefly got to see Harriet but I wasn't even sure why she was there because she just popped up for no reason and then disappeared again. It was rather odd and disappointing.
I didn't hate Knave Of Hearts but I certainly didn't love it either.
