GRANDMA'S WEDDING QUILTS: Twelve Sweet North America Historical Romance Novellas and Novels from Eleven USA Today Bestselling, Amazon Bestselling, and Award-winning Authors. Grandma Mary's traditional gift to each of her grandchildren: hand-pieced and hand-stitched quilts. Made with love and woven with memories, wisdom, and a family legacy of enduring love.
About Kizzie’s Kisses:
Running from hostile Indians attacking Salina, Kansas in 1862, feisty Kizzie Atwell, Grandma Mary’s oldest grandchild, runs into freighter Leander Jones traveling the Smoky Hill Trail. He is as interested in her as his stallion is in her mare. The two join forces to prevent the Fort Riley Army captain from requisitioning their beloved horses for the cavalry. Avoiding bushwhackers and fighting off a thieving bullwhacker binds their bargain.

In 1865, at the victory dance held at Fort Riley to celebrate the end of the Civil War, Kizzie is asked to participate in a fund-raiser to aid the Sanitary Commission helping injured and sick soldiers. It involves chaste sweetheart kisses in exchange for tickets purchased by officers and guests. As a contract freighter for the Army, Leander is invited. Much to Leander’s chagrin, before his chance to claim his kiss, Kizzie’s uncle steps in and puts an end to the kissing game.

Is Leander out of luck, or will the bargain Kizzie and Leander made three years earlier to save their horses lead to a more romantic bargain sealed with a kiss?

A very enjoyable read. I enjoyed the fact that the romance was over a period of time instead of fall in love within a week. It had other parts of the story which brought it together besides the romance

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new series! Kizzie's Kisses is full of fun, excitment from start to finish it is a thrilling read 10 January 2017

I loved this from start to finish, it is filled with action from the first page to the last. The author gives you a thrilling read of attacks of all kinds from Indians to rough and ratty men. This is a very fast moving read that keeps you on your toes, there are not dull minute. Kizzie’s is a women after my own heart she is years ahead of herself trying to prove herself in a man’s world were women knew their place never stepping out of line always a lady. Kizzie is strong does what she thinks is best for her family which puts her in danger sometimes. She is a go getter, a shaker, and a mover not letting much grass grow under her feet. This is what catches the eye of Leander from the moment he sees her in a head to head fight for her life not backing down he knew she was the women for him. Now he just needs to find out her name and make her see his as the man of her dreams which is not an easy task to fill. I loved their baiting how they go for what they believe in and are willing to fight to get it. This was an exciting read that is fun loving at times.

There is nothing but nothing I didn’t like about this story it has thrills, chills, excitement, fights, danger, a sweet slow build up of love, clean and just plain fun. Leander is a true gentleman who goes to bat for Kiszzie more than once. She sees him as a nosey more or less stalker who won’t let her alone. Slowly she sees him for what he is. It was a wonderful pleasure to watch these two fall in love and trying to overcome the odds. This is a story about growing, finding your way, stepping out and being different, going for what you believe in, overcoming fear and taking the bull by the horn. I loved the characters Charlie is a wise man who sees things others do not. Her father is just like Kizzie bullheaded and set in his way. He has a lot to learn about women and really learns to see Kizzie for how she is and be proud of the person she has become. Kizzie is a very kind and sweet girl who will go toe to toe with you but is giving as well. Grandma is back with some wise words and thoughts. I have just loved her throughout this whole series.

This is a very well written story that hooks you from the first page. There is lots of thrilling action and danger plus a clean romance. You have everything between these pages that makes a wonderful romance that you won’t be able to put down. I started this book at night BIG MISTAKE before I knew it, it was well past my bedtime but well worth being tried the next day. This was such a fun read with laughter as well as sorrow. I really enjoyed the ending what a delightful read. The only thing that disappointed me was it had to end I really could have read on seeing them each step of their way to old age as they overcome the odds of life and land bring the next generation of children who I am sure have as much spirit as these two have. This is a story you don’t want to miss, each one of the books in this series has been a delight and full of humor, danger, love and lots of meaning along with a wonderful grandmother who shows her love with each stitch she puts in the quilts she makes them telling a story about their wonderful family that grows learns and loves.

Note: Throughout the year I pick stories that really reached out and touched me in some way they become my favorite read. I have picked this story as one of my favorite reads for 2017.

The story begins in 1862, during the time of the civil war, and not everyone wanted to be caught up in the fighting, and that was the case of the Palmers and Atwells. They left Missouri and moved to Kansas, but there is still unrest with some of the various Indian tribes. One such event of attacks by Indians on their neighbors sets this tale into motion.

Kizzie Atwell, against what her mother would prefer, defies the norm and will wear trousers, especially doing farm work with her father, or riding her horse. When the family heard of Indian attacks and told to gather items, get in their wagons and move to safety, Kizzie instead takes her horse, Sugarcone, and while dressing as a boy, heads to Fort to find her father and uncle. She must fight off an attacker but is rescued by Leander Jones.

The story encompasses the three years from 1862 until 1865, Leander’s visit to the Atwell farm, and the beginning of a relationship, even if nothing is said for years. Kizzie is a spirited young woman; she proves she has spunk and a backbone, especially during trying times.

When Grandma Mary is laying out pieces of fabric for a quilt, she explains to Kizzie that the quilt will become hers and ask her about any fabric she has that she will want to be part of the quilt. As with many quilts, fabrics from articles of clothing will make up some of the squares, and that will also be the case in this special quilt.

The story is fascinating and has a great cast of characters. It takes the reader back to a harsher time in history, with war, Indian attacks, unscrupulous men, and those who believe in duty, and honor. When hard work was a part of life and even scraps of fabric were considered valuable and useful, especially in a quilt made with love.

This is the first book by Zina Abbott I have read and I loved it. It is an amazing start to the first grandchild of Grandma Mary's that has an adventure and falls in love and gains the beautiful wedding quilt Grandma Mary has made for her. If you read the prequel to this story you found out that Grandma Mary gave a family legacy to each of her grandchildren in a wedding quilt when they got married and she always knows when each grandchild is in love before the grandchild does.
Kizzie is a young woman who goes against what she should do and often if found wearing her brother's pants and clothes especially when riding a horse astride. She is also very brave and when there is an Indian attack at the town they live near she rides out towards to Fort to find her father and tell him about the attack and to come home and help.
She goes back home and gets messages to all the family living in different parts around the same Kansas town to get to safety her grandparents come, cousins come and uncle and every other member of the family get to her parents house to figure out a plain.
What she doesn't know is the bullwhackers also have been watching her come and go to the fort and have followed her.
You much read this books as this suspense filled story goes on to read what happens to several members of the family and how they get rid of the problems these people are causing all around town and out in the surrounding areas.
I really loved this character Kizzie for her spontaneous ways and not kowtowing to anyone when she feels the has to do what she has to do as the oldest child in this household and family. I just loved her spunk.
For this first book of Zina Abbot's I loved it and will read more of her stories.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Simpler Time to be Cherished 17 January 2017

It is 1862 and Indian attacks are occurring. It is time to flee to safety but the men of the household are off on business. Kizzie Atwell, the eldest daughter, is confident that she can reach her uncle and father to gather their return home to help the family. She heads off on her horse but gets waylaid on the way by a lecherous man. Leander Jones comes to her rescue and sees her to safety. He comes up with a plan to save Kizzie’s horse from the army, who wants to commandeer it, and begins the ball rolling for their future.

Their relationship is a sweet, loving tale that introduces us to the Atwell family. Grandma Mary is a quilter and begins to make each grandchild a quilt. Kizzie, being her eldest grandchild, gets the first quilt. This quilt is to be given to Kizzie at her marriage and it is a special heirloom that will most ensuredly be passed down to future generations.

This story is a warm blanket, fresh out of the dryer, on a cold day. It takes the reader back to a simpler time where family was valued, love was true, and virtue and honor were cherished.
5.0 out of 5 stars Kizzi's stronge spirit! 11 January 2017

What a great story about a sweet young gal with a lot of spirit and determination to get help for her family from the Indians and bullwhackers, they lived in a primitive area she had to go forty miles as fast as she could to get to her dad and uncle to save her family . What she encountered on the way with a filthy large man, that snuck up behind her will put any parent with a young gal under stress.what I loved about this story is living in the story back in time, about the freight wagons, traveling around Kanas, and Colorado. Meeting up with the army and the encounter and worrying about her horse, sugarcone. Then again to find the filthy man at her fathers home and holding her sister with a knife! Kizzi meeting Mr. Jones and his half brother who is a Kaw Indian, Mr. Gray Cloud. As a young gal and what transpired between Mr. Jones! There's a lot of great true history and drama in Zina's books that I love reading about. You won't ever be disappointed with her books! Fast reading! Because The book is so good!
