***I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book***

I really enjoyed this book and I'm going to be chomping at the bit waiting for the next book in the series. Luckily for me it's due out towards the end of June so I just have to hold on until then. I have a reminder setup on my calendar so I can start looking for the next book when it should be released. The storyline and characters are complex without being difficult to follow which adds to the great story unfolding.

The story has vampires, witches, and magic. Alene the main character of this book is a young women soon to reach her majority/18 and a crossroad in her young life. Alene is half-vampire and half-witch a combination forbidden from existing. She bridles at her mother's and several others regimented life schedule for her and their lack of answers to her many questions about her father and what her future holds for her. A high-school senior her life is beset with the usual high-school angst of classes, mean girls, and the new world of boys. There are so many things going on in Alene life you need to read the book and how well the author has managed to blend and bind everything together.

This was the first book I've read from this author but it will definitely not be the last. Get your copy and you can wait with me until the next book releases. I know that you won't be disappointed. I raced through the book as quickly as I could because it was so hard putting the book down for any longer than I had too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartstopping 9 February 2017

Where do I even start my review?! Kingdom of Embers has me guessing the whole book on the bond that two students have with each other. Not only that, but I was wondering when the other shoe was going to drop. Alena is still trying to find out who she wants to be when she turns 18. On her own accords she meets Hunter. Hunter and Alena have a very strange bond between them. They do everything they can to try and figure out what it is that caused it. They are also missing a key part. Alenas mother is meddeling in her life. She only wants the bet for her, but this particular meddeling will leave Aleana with a bad taste in her mouth.

I believe that this is the first book that I have read by Tricia, and I can tell you that this isn't going to be the last. She leaves you wanting more! You will be needing more after you read this book! Her writting sucks you in and it refuses to let you go once you start. You will not be disappointed at all!
5.0 out of 5 stars The author does not disappoint. Being a mom of high school daughters myself 12 March 2017

I picked up this book hoping for a new take on vampires; a new spin on the mysteries of them living among us. The author does not disappoint. Being a mom of high school daughters myself, I found Ms. Copeland balanced well the element of reality with the elements of magic and mystery surrounding Alena's character as she tries to find her way into adulthood.

As an Aromatherapist, I love reading that Alena was using oils to help Calm her or keep her Focused.

I wanted resolution to the mystery of the boys in her life and their attraction to her. What roles will they continue to play? The hanging questions that linger as I finished the book have me excitedly anticipating book #2.

I have recommended this book to both my daughters. I would say it's appropriate for ages 13 & older.
5.0 out of 5 stars A much needed twist to a old genre! 14 March 2017

Having been a fan of Tricia Copeland for some time, I immediately picked up Kingdom of Embers when it was released knowing that I would be in for a treat. What I didn't anticipate was how hooked I would be on this unique story about a young girl in the midst of discovery about who she is in a world that most don't know actually exists. In a genre that others have over saturated with run of the mill stories of vampires, Ms. Copeland has created a twist where the reader is plunged into a world where what you see isn't always what you get. The creative use of childhood imaginary friends takes the book to a new level that leaves the reader wanting more. The author does a great job of balancing the development of her main character, Alena, with adrenaline inducing action that had me feeling like I was somehow seeing the story as a movie in my head! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Spin on Vampires 9 February 2017

It's hard to have a fresh spin on vampires, but Kingdom of Embers offers just that. Whatever you think you know about vampire lore, toss it out. Alena is a vampire-witch hybrid, and even she doesn't completely understand those rules, mainly because her mother hasn't shared much yet.

As Alena searches for answers, she begins to realize how much she has to learn about her role in the Universe. She connects with a childhood friend, who is also more than he originally appeared, and challenges those around her to share the truth ... to trust her with it.

But her journey brings her face-to-face with danger. Kudos to the author for the great balance between developing Alena--allowing the reader to become attached--and creating action and intrigue. It makes for a captivating story.

Really liked this book and am so looking forward to the next in the series. I liked the characters and the plot. Really kept me guessing and wanting to know more. Romantic but clean which makes me excited to pass this on to my tween daughter, probably my son too! Great writing Tricia Copeland!
