About the Author
Robert Thorogood is the creator of the hit BBC One TV series DEATH IN PARADISE.
He was born in Colchester, Essex, in 1972. When he was 10-years old, he read his first proper novel – Agatha Christie’s Peril at End House – and he’s been in love with the genre ever since.
He now lives in Marlow in Buckinghamshire with his wife, children and an increasingly cranky Bengal cat called Daniel.

The main storyline of the murder of Polly Carter is not bad. Slightly echoed some of the episodes in the TV series, I felt, especially episode 6 of season 2, but all in all a very nice murder mystery and nothing less than what I'd expect from Robert Thorogood.
The secondary storyline, that of DI Poole's mother visiting him on the island is the big event, as I saw it. The emotional impact of that storyline is immense and would have been so even if I didn't know DI Poole's eventual fate.
This book is, yet again, another example of how the written medium allows you a much better view into the character's mind and history, and the way that can touch the reader directly, without the intermediary of actors and directors - wonderful though those might be.
I would recommend the book to all fans. Especially, to any sobbing DI Poole fan (Like myself), who still isn't over him being gone.
With that said... stay away from the audiobook. I signed up for the Audible 30-day trial right after I finished reading the book, and found myself desperate to be back in that world, so I used up one of my two free book credits to get it.
You'd think that in a book where the characters' voice are available ON TAPE for the narrator to study, that the end result would be up to snuff, but that is far from being the case here. His Camille is too high-pitched and almost comically caricaturistically French. His Dwayne sounds... almost Scottish! And his Fidel sounds the same, but slightly higher. Only his DI Poole comes close, but even then, only when he's really annoyed (Ok, so it's not uncommon for DI Poole, but still).
It was really disappointing. All I can say is thank heavens I didn't go the whole hog and get both of them (I got the ABC Murders instead of the other DiP book. Funny, when you consider I wasn't aware of the ABC Murders' connection to DI Poole's eventual fate).
So, yes, by all means buy the book. If you're a fan, you'll love it. But don't buy the audiobook, you'll only regret it.
Hope in Camille's eyes? Great stuff! My hope is there will be more than just one to come in this series. Please?
