I must say I loved this story. To finish this book in one day should tell you something. I could not put it down! All the mythical creatures you can think of are in this book. The story flowed beautifully from the first book to this one. I will not tell you how the story goes dear reader... You must embark on this road by yourself.
Although I do wonder if Poe got his Christmas wish. I will be looking for more books from this talented writer. I'm looking forward to more from Genevieve Jack in the future.

Can't wait for the next book to see what happens. It's like watching a movie, exciting, fast pacing, and you don't want it to finish..

I appreciated the author giving the paranormal beings some different traits.

Kick The Candle is book two of the Knight Games series of paranormal romances and continues with the story of Grateful Knight, a nurse and a reincarnated witch. Paranormal beings have been increasing in the local area and Grateful and Rick, her guardian, have been exhausting themselves trying to deal with them all.
With her new witchy powers Grateful conjures a familiar to help, but instead of a cat or an owl that she hoped for, she gets an ugly raven with attitude. Her romantic life is complicated by the jealous behaviour of Rick, and Logan, an ex-hospital patient. Meanwhile, she’s drugged and kidnapped from a party, only to discover that she is the supposed owner of a dark grimoire and several powerful dark beings want it. The problem is, Grateful knows nothing about the book or its whereabouts.
Another fun book in this series, I like the fast pace and once more I appreciated the author giving the paranormal beings some different traits from some of the standard ones in this genre. I look forward to reading more in the series.

Beneath The Human World

3.5 stars
The second book in the Knight Games series is heavier on the Supernatural elements and much less focused on the amorous life of Grateful and there are far less toe-curling passages to endure this time around. We do get to meet a few new supes - including a Werewolf detective and a fairy bordello owner. We also get to find out more about the burgeoning Vampire community set up close to the Hellmouth that it is Grateful's task to guard.
I was disappointed to note that one of the themes of the book (Grateful losing the graveyard house) was also repeated here. We've already done this one and there was never any actual fear that the mysterious Mr Nekomata would succeed in ousting Grateful from her attic. It just felt a bit like a lazy plot point to try and dredge up more tension - not really necessary when you factor kidnapping and torture.
On the whole Grateful is a lot easier of a person to like in this book, maybe because she is away from Rick for big parts of it and she seems to think more with her head than other, less salubrious organs. The plotting is generally tighter and conversations seem to have a point to them, even if it doesn't seem terribly important at the time. The fictional world the characters inhabit is fleshed out a lot more and is starting to feel solid and to have a good sense of it's own mythology.
All this gives me hope for the third installment of the series. I can't honestly say that I am waiting for it with bated breath but I am much less trepidacious than I was after the first book.

Good follow-up

Bought this sequel as soon as I finished the first one as I loved "The Ghost & The Graveyard" - I still love the characters and the plot itself was well thought out - the action is great and sometimes gruesome. The supernatural elements well explained - my only feeling when I got to the end of the book was that I am not so much into Rick as I probably should be(I liked Logan and thought he might get a chance with Grateful?!?) so overall I give it 4 stars and if there is ever another book in the series then I would purchase it.

Great concept with strong characters and storyline.

Although this reads a little like a young adult book, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the entire collection.
I have always loved the idea of being resurrected in different lifetimes and yet remembering the past ones, what an amazing concept!
The writing style is good though some of the terms are a little off, eg ...if he thought I would do it, he has another THING coming... rather than another THINK coming. Just a little annoyance which doesn't really detract from the story.

Great read!

Wow! I loved this book, got totally lost in Gratefuls world once again. To be honest the beginning was a bit slow and predictable and I almost didn't pick it up again! But I'm so glad I did! Full of action, drama and emotion. This was a great read! Can't wait for the next one!
