I bought this for my Syrian Hamster when it was on special offer so it worked out really cheap for two large bags. The balls are quite big but my hammie doesn’t seem to be bothered about it but he is quite a big fellow. I used to use potty litter which is virtually what it is. The two sizes in the potty litter (small and large balls) it’s the same size as the larger one. It is small balls of clay like substance and does clump which is a good thing as you can pour the unurinated balls to one side and reuse them. I do have to change it more frequent than the potty litter as it does smell after a day or so plus he starts to use his bath if I don’t change it every day or other day. I would definitely recommend it though. It does work out a heck of a lot cheaper even though it has to be changed more often. Mind you, my hamster does seem to drink quite a bit of water, more than any of the others I have had (I have had him checked but nothing is wrong) hamsters tend not to drink a lot. I will be buying again for my Syrian but not sure if it’s any good for smaller dwarf hamsters.
I was quite suprised how small the bag was when it arrived in the post as for the price I was expecting more product. I use this for two rabbits and find that once the clay has been urinated on it becomes mushy and sticks to the bottom of the litter tray. It is very difficult to get off (even with pet disinfectant) without creating a clay smear over the tray. Therefore to resolve this issue I now place sawdust at the bottom of the tray first. However this does send mix messages to the rabbits and hinders there training as they confuse the sawdust in the tray with that in their cage and start peeing everywhere again. I managed to get through this bag in 8 days and therefore it is very, very pricey.
Overall if you change an average sized litter tray daily expect this bag not to go very far and to possibly create a bit of a mess. I won't be buying this again!
It gets smelly very quickly and clumps into this gooey awful mess that you have to practically scrub to get off. I had to clear out my rats' litter boxes a lot more frequently when using this, almost every day. That means I ran out of this litter very quickly and it's expensive for such a small bag. Paper pellets are the way to go
Kiwi, my hamster, had been eating other types of sand I would put in the potty but this one was great! It lasts forever, doesn't have any fragrance and I am not worried about him ingesting sand. Really recommend it!
I use this for a Syrian hamster and it's perfect, she started using it instantly. The odour control works really well and lasts at least a week. It's a great quality and isn't dusty like others can be. I'll always use this brand!
