This novel is a trip down memory lane… a chance to drive back in time and revisit your youth as they say. A novel that evokes memories of old detective novels with action, atmosphere and gritty characters. It also harks back to a time when cars were more than a vehicle but a status symbol, a work of art and maybe even the basis of your identity.
A must-read for anyone that grew up in the era when everyone did some work on their own cars. You knew the dealers, mechanics and body guys that worked on your car and you respected their talents and trades. That era when cars where sculptures of steel, leather, vinyl, wood and rubber endlessly variable in shape and colour.
Kash and Kars captures through flashbacks, the era of 1950s and 60’s stock car racing. Maybe on weekends you frequented some of the hundreds of local raceways throughout rural America and Canada for entertainment before we became the prisoners of TV screens. When a group of friends could pool their talents, time and money and still build a competitive racecar to challenge last week’s winner. Everyone knew the legends.
A great read for guys that are restoring a classic (or a classic in their own minds). For those guys who drag the family out on Sundays to attend charity classic car shows, or maybe you’re at the point in your life when you’ve got a collection of cast models of your past rides on your desk or shelves in your den.
Maybe pick one up for a birthday or Christmas present for those guys everyone has in their life that are out in the garage or barn hammering away on an old vehicle. Even if you only see them reading workshop manuals, if they only read one novel per year…..they’ll appreciate this one…..until hopefully the sequel comes out!
Love to see it as a movie…!
