They were heavy duty but I’m an idiot and didn’t check the size first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient way to replace captive speaker leads with plug-in leads, but ...

Others may, like me, have wondered how to get around the problem of arranging one or more speakers of a stereo around the room, where the stereo is cheap, off-the-shelf, and so was supplied with captive speaker leads which are too short for the particular room where the stereo is to be.

If one is going to replace the captive leads by sockets on the back of the speaker cabinets, then some considerations are:
+ You want standard sockets for this purpose, 4mm 'banana' type seems to be the norm
+ The cut out for the terminal box containing the sockets should be easy to make, so preferably cuttable with a hole saw rather than needing something like a fretsaw, jigsaw, or router.
+ The sockets should be recessed so that when plugs are inserted they do not stick out of the back of the cabinet and so prevent it being placed against the wall, which some consider desirable, others do not, but the arrangement chosen should leave that choice open by default.

These boxes fulfil the first two of these criteria, sadly not the third. The photos show one of them in the back of a speaker from a relatively cheap, but nevertheless tolerably good, Panasonic stereo. The terminal boxes were relatively easy to mount: removing the speakers and their existing wiring via the front before using a holesaw to cut their mounting holes in the back, cleaning out the dust with a vacuum cleaner, clipping the existing cables and soldering them to the terminals of the sockets, before putting everything back together. However, I can't give it five stars, because the plugs are not very good because they are rather wobbly in the sockets, and they still stick out the back, but at least I can arrange the speakers in the room correctly now.

I would have preferred a slightly different more substantial connection on the inside of the cup, it was a great value otherwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Binding Post

Due to my own stupidity, I broke the binding post on a speaker. Yes, don't use the speaker wire to try and pull a center channel out of a cabinet.

Anyway, the binding post was an almost exact replacement for what was in the speaker.
