A wonderful book with all the elements combined. Not simply a romance, but a heartwarming environmental story about the Northern Territory, with suspense and political intrigue to keep the reader on their toes.
A compelling story of love, loss, ancient land, and current political issues. Told among striking scenery and woven around complex characters, "Kakadu Sunset" is a story that will take you on a wild ride through the Australian Outback. If you have ever been to the Northern Territory it will bring back delightful memories. If you have never been, it will only inspire that spark to travel the open road. So hitch up the caravan, put on your hat and shorts, drink a cold beverage and dive into Annie Seaton's "Kakadu Sunset" before the wet season and the storms roll around once more.
Kakadu Sunset by Annie Seaton is an intricate, complex yet easy to follow story with deep characters. Annie blends together very well intriguing elements of both romance and suspense in Kakadu Sunset, with the suspenseful story line leading the way. I liked that Kakadu Sunset was a multi focal story and that all the pieces fit together so well. I felt like I got a bit of everything in Kakadu Sunset...from corruption, modern day environmental issues, relationships, an evil bully, danger, sadness, and at the same time the peaceful feeling of love and caring.

Good story line that will keep you reading
I have found my new favourite author
Looking forward to more from Annie Seaton.
I loved the idea of the timeline in the chapter headings, this showed how life can easily fit within a short timeframe.
Still, liked the story.

Ellie is a helicopter pilot, taking tourist over scenic routes. She is born and raised in Australia and she has a strong love of her country. She is a tough cookie, she takes nothing off of anyone and she is capable of holding her own. She has a lot of sadness in her space. Her beloved father hung himself in their shed. Her mother believes he was murdered. There is a lot of money in the ground below their farm and a very unscrupulous man wants it. He will do anything to get it. Murder is easily on the list. Of course he doesn't do it but he has men that will. She knows something is going on but she is almost powerless to do anything. She really has no idea what she is up against.
The hero of the story is an ex-helicopter pilot that was in the war. A terrible crash killed all his crew members and he holds himself responsible. He is suffering from a lot of guilt and not sure how to help himself. His mother has remarried to a man that just wanted her money. He blew through that and now he is on the take from anyone that will give him money. His wife is dying and he is no where near or willing to be with and help her. It is very troubling.
This story is filled with all the angst you could possibly want. The corrupt politicians and the criminal they are giving into to stay alive are just chilling. I'm sure this is not all fiction! I think it goes on everywhere. There are threats from alligators and snakes. It is full of adventure and you get a great picture of what Australia is like from its beauty to its dangers. it is a good read and I definitely recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am a not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 9/19/2020

My reviews usually include a plot summary, but not this time. I seriously need to vent. Yes, I'm annoyed. I read and review dozens of books every year, and I especially enjoy books about Australia. In fact, some of my favorite books were written by Australian authors, and they earned my highest recommendations. When the cover and blurb of Kakadu Sunset drew my attention, I expected another enjoyable read. Ha!
There's nothing enjoyable about missing or misplaced words and punctuation, but the paragraphs were the biggest annoyance. Lines of dialogue between two people were often crammed into a single paragraph with little or no punctuation, forcing the reader to try to figure out who was saying what! To make things worse, paragraphs would suddenly stop in the middle of a sentence and start a new paragraph for no reason at all. What the heck? Does this author know nothing about proper book formatting? If that's the case, she should hire someone who does. It's neither difficult nor expensive.
As I said, this story is actually quite good, with a likable hero and heroine, a beautiful Australian setting (Kakadu National Park), and a suspenseful plot, so I ignored my urge to delete it from my Kindle and read it clear through to the end. With proper editing, this book would easily merit four stars. Sadly, in its current condition, I can't give it more than one. (A note to the author: Please respect your readers by giving this story the professional attention it deserves. Thank you.)

I read a lot of good books but every once in a while there will come a book that will make me go WOW! Kakadu Sunset is definitely one such book. The setting, the characters, the pacing, the gripping suspense, romance and friendships are all excellently done. Annie Seaton always tells a good story but she’s out done herself with Kakadu Sunset.
The setting is fabulous, Kakadu National Park. Through the eyes of her characters, Annie Seaton, shows you the sweeping grandeur and atmosphere of the land and what it’s like to live there. She also shows why people will fight to keep it safe and beautiful.
The plot is taken right from the headlines. The environmental dangers of fracking and the immense amount profits to be made on such minerals rights and the lengths some will go to get that money.
The characters are well drawn and you can’t help but care about them all. Ellie Porter sparkles and she has a lot of heart and integrity. She loves the land but is still struggling with the loss of her father and the family farm and her grief makes it hard for her to open herself to love and loss. Then there is Kane, a former military pilot suffering PTSD. He’s feast for the eyes but, despite the damage of war is still tough and honorable. War and loss has closed him off from emotion. The romance between the two is fraught with emotional and physical danger and secrets, but it’s good and it mattered to me, as the reader, that they take the chance. You’re cheering them on. Ellie’s friends and Kane’s mother were also great characters. The villain is well done and three dimensional and I not only loathed him but wanted him squashed—for him people were things to be manipulated and tossed away like so much rubbish. He did quite a bit of tossing away.
The dangerous stakes involved also made me question my own principles; how far would I go to protect my family?
The story moves fast and the tension and danger builds with each scene. The author does a great job of making the characters matter. What makes the story even better is just when you think you have it figured out the author ups the stakes and throws in a few surprises. The ending was very satisfying and well done.
If you like romantic suspense that grips you and doesn’t let go, THIS is the book to read this summer! I’m eagerly awaiting the next two!

After a visit with her mother, she couldn't wait to get home and back to flying, but on her way back, she watched several large trucks with huge pipes on them, turn into one of the access roads to the mango plantation depth at had been her family home. The sight sent a chill through her. Why would anyone need that equipment and what was going on? Finding out could get her killed!
