Whisper vs. Newport H2

I attached photos of myself in each. The Newport H2 is the gray one, and the Whisper is the brown shoe. The Newport H2 is more rugged in every way. Note the toe guard, the width of protection surrounding my feet, and the tread on the sole (see 2nd photo). The Whisper is daintier and more fitted around my foot. It seems, too, that my toes are visible in the Whisper but not in the Newport H2. I plan to return one pair, and here's the rub: I want the sturdier ones for nature walking/hiking and for long walks, but I feel more comfortable in the Whisper, which also happens to look better. The Newports feel a little too wide, and I think the back strap would rub my ankle (I am short, though). Both use the bungee strings for adjustment in a way that is more effective than I'd realized ahead of time -- they work like any shoe laces. Oh and do buy 1/2 size up!
(Update: Decision made. I'm going to keep the Whisper based on comfort... I wore them out and felt great!)

Inconsistent sizing

These shoes are so inconsistent in sizing! I ordered several pairs (different colors) to compare them in person and determine which ones I liked best and wanted to keep. I ordered them all in size 9, but they all fit completely differently (see photos). Upon further inspection, I noticed the different colors are made in different countries. The "made in Mexico" pairs fit more like I'd expect. The "made in Thailand" pairs are way, way too small. I expect better from a higher-end brand like Keen. That said, once I decided which color I wanted to keep and ordered a bigger size, they are very comfortable (only worn around the house so far). I decided on the coffee liqueur color and think they are the most versatile for being sporty (hiking, etc.) or a little more "dressy" (walking around town, going to dinner, etc).

This close to great...

Picked up a pair of these shoes for my last vacation, where I was going to need a closed toe shoe that would also work in the water. Found these as a fluke, the only pair in the store I was looking in (because it was off-season) and I just didn't have time to wait for a delivery from online. These shoes worked out perfectly, with one exception. As I was leaving the resort for my planned excursion, it was raining. The resort had marble flooring. I can't even tell you how many times I almost wiped out just trying to walk across that flooring in the rain. They had less than zero grip on wet marble. Out on the trail with rocks and dirt? Great traction. On slippery marble, zip. I've noticed in reviews I've looked up since that traction is one thing that this model gets dinged on, they sometimes recommend the Keen Newport H2 for better traction--I can't tell you if that's true as I haven't tried the Newports, but the tread patterns are very different. Other than that, they're very comfortable. I didn't notice any rubbing. I usually wear wide width shoes (the other reason I hesitate to order online if I'm not as familiar with the brand's normal fit) and had no problems with them. Pic attached is after I did my worst to them in the mud, sand and dirt. They rinsed right off, good as new.

Thought these shoes would be the perfect answer for a trip that included cities, hiking and a few river crossings. Wore them for about 15 days on a three week trip and was happy until the stitching started unraveling in four different locations. I called Amazon as the 30 return period was over by two weeks. The Amazon rep contacted Keen, but they said they would only provide a credit to be used at Keen (not Amazon) and the prices were much higher. Amazon would have exchanged them but did not have the item in my size. Amazon agreed to refund my purchase price (go Amazon!). Shoes should not start falling apart after 15 days!

I have problem feet: arthritis, swelling, wide forefoot, narrow heels and now an injury. Therefore I have really high standards. These are almost a 5 star. While wider than many shoes & sandals, the Keen brand comes with an expectation of a roomy footbed. These are just a bit tight and I'm hoping they stretch with wear.
I wear an 8.5 to 9 depending on the style or brand. I bought the 9 which is the same size as my Keen Durand Mid WP hiking boots that I love (& wear with thick socks). You could tighten the bungee and make these quite narrow and/or heel gripping.
These sandals are cute and have great support. I love the fun magnet/sangria colors. The sole and footbed are exactly what I expect in a sandal from Keen: springy and structured. The sandal fabric is soft against my feet. No blisters when worn right out of the box.
The best surprise is how cool and airy they are. I normally am barefoot or wear flip flops. My foot problems need more support right now and these are the answer!
If these stretch out a little, I'd give them 5 stars.
