I recently marathoned the Hashtag series, and loved that series, but #Junkie is the book I was most looking forward to. Technically #Junkie is a spin-off and so can be read without reading the Hashtag series first, and there is enough details retold (but not too many to be annoying for people who have read the other series) to be able to keep up with past events which are mentioned.

I'm a huge fan of the MM genre, and GFY (Gay For You) might well be my favourite trope within that genre. In the Hashtag books it had been hinted that Trent and Drew may be a little more than Super Bros, but we as the reader weren't ever sure because both Trent and Drew were always in the background.

#Junkie opens with a drunken Trent being looked after Drew at Drew's house (readers of the Hashtag series will recognise this as the morning that Anthony came to the house to speak to Braeden).
Trent admits some potential truths about his feelings for Drew, but then blames it on the alcohol and claims not to remember.

"Alcohol often admits things people are too afraid to say sober."

The relationship between Drew and Trent was a slow burn, with both of them individually having to come to terms with the fact that they are attracted to the other.

"I didn't want to talk to anyone right now.
Especially Drew.
I wasn't gay.
Except...maybe I was."

"There was definitely more between Trent and me than just friendship.
Way, way much more."

Because of the fact the boys are best friends, it never felt like the story dragged, there were plenty of interactions between the two, the pacing was perfect, and there were a few little moments and/or revelations leading up to the intimacy that kept the story flowing.

Another fantastic entry in this series. Cambria has been dropping hints about these two guys throughout the past few books, and it's nice to finally see them get together officially. Romance is romance and it doesn't matter what gender the people involved are, as long as it's a good story and the characters are the kind of people you relate to and want to succeed. I think the discussion of the issues for these two in admitting their love was honest, and I'll look forward to the next book.

I love GFY novels. Specially double GFY. the story started quite slowly and if you haven't read any of the # series. Some of the story would not make sense. Saying that however. There was a bit too much drama and internal dialog for my taste. I liked the basis of this book. Just wish they could have turned it down a bit with the drama and maybe added a bit more sweet/Sexy.

I loved this book, the love Trent and Drew share is so beautiful and I think a possibly difficult subject was handled so incredibly well. #Junkie isn't so much a m/m romance as it is 2 people falling in love. I enjoyed it immensely and it is one of my favourites. I can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Huge #Trew Love Stars! 21 February 2016
By Wild Heart Reviews - Published on

Let me try to sum #Junkie up in a few words. Heartwarming, the "feels", touching... those three things all at once with a side of amazing, heartbreaking, and oh my God, can I have the next book now please. If you can't guess from that last statement. #Junkie by Cambria Hebert is a cliffhanger. However, you won't have to wait long if you want the second book, #Rev, because it will be out in less than a month.

Going into this book, I really wasn't sure what to think. On one hand, I anticipated this book so much that I was scared to start it. On the other hand, I dove right into it face first. I was trying to keep an open mind about it. If you follow my blog, you know I'm a huge fan of Ms. Cambria's Hashtag series... Drew and Trent are part of that. So I have a tremendous of love for them going into the book before it even begins. When it was first announced that it would be M/M I was shocked, for sure. I hadn't ever seen them going that way. I figured they would both get their own book. They are Super Bros, after all. I frankly don't think Cambria could have written this better, or in any different way. I loved these boys before, and I love them so much more now.

This is not an easy story. It's full of so many life changing things for -both- of these characters. They have to change, and adapt. They realize things about themselves and each other. Honestly, I sat here holding my Kindle to my chest at one point just sobbing, because of the feels. This book is honest. It's about love, regardless of who it is with and what form it is in. Our main heroes have hurdles to overcome, and a twist at the end that I didn't see coming.

In this spin-off and new series "GearShark" it's based around a magazine. That is why the covers look like magazine covers. You get to meet some new characters, you get to touch base with old characters that you know and love. You get to see cars that you'll drool over even in text, and you will actually feel the adrenaline right along with the characters. Be prepared to be right on the edge of your seat and not put this book down even once.

Do you need to have read anything prior to #Junkie? Nah, it can be a standalone. Though you really might want to meander back and read the books in the Hashtag series too. I love spin-offs and this one is going on the top of my lists.

A fast-paced 5 adrenaline junkie #Trew love hearts for this one. I absolutely cannot wait for #Rev!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ends with a cliffhanger 17 November 2016

DISCLAIMER: The following review was originally posted on my book blog (link in bio) and Goodreads account.

This one is a bit difficult to rate as I really liked parts of it, but really disliked other parts of it. What I liked? I liked how Drew and Trent were friends first and then somehow something developed between the two, I liked seeing how they had gotten so accustomed to their straight male labels and now were open to having a relationship with someone of their own sex because who cares what gender someone is as long as the person is a good one? I liked that the guys had a strong support system around them and that their friends didn't even bat an eye when their changed relationship became kind of public.

But what I really disliked about the book, was the way it ended. I hoped for a standalone story but got a story with a stupid cliffhanger ending instead. I may have liked Drew and Trent together even though their POVs were kind of difficult to differentiate for me at first, but I didn't believe in their relationship that much so that I would want to read one two more books about them. Especially after this ending... I don't want that drama!

What I also didn't enjoy, was the fact that there were a ton of mentions about other characters and their stories and their books from a completely different series. I discovered later that the Gearshark series is a spinoff of that one. I have not read those books. I have no intention to read these books and these random tidbits about other couples confused me and made me think that maybe there's something big missing from this book. It felt like I had started reading a story from the middle...

4.0 out of 5 stars I Sped Through This Book Without Braking 14 February 2016

This honestly must be one of the best M/M books I've read. Not that I have read that many. I think I only read one other. But still... It IS Cambria Hebert. Be warned though, this couple does have sexual activities that are detailed in this book. I didn't mind at all. But just thought that you all should know.

The one thing I learned from this book is I now understand how tough it must be for a gay guy when dealing with his love life. I mean, outing yourself, even liking someone can be so tough, and putting yourself out there.

Boy and girl, easy enough. But when it comes to boy and boy, it's like wait, are you gay, straight? If I ask, will you kick my ass? Am I nuts? Am I alone? Am I imagining the sparks? Wait, am I ready to out myself? Especially to my best friend and ironically the guy I'm falling for. What if this destroys our friendship? Am I REALLY gay?

Too many questions. I sat back and thought, man that sucks! There's so many hurdles to get over for this couple. Not only that, they have to worry about the family and friends. Will they be accepted? I mean the family is full of jocks.... Will the jocks be cool with them being gay? Complications on top of complications really. There's even one scene which one of the guys gets beaten up for being gay.

The story is great, love the characters and I love especially the character that comes and teaches Drew how to drive better. I want a spin off series on her. She seems incredibly interesting!

I'm already anticipating the second book in this series. I am pretty sure that it'll be just as great as this one was!
5.0 out of 5 stars I am so in love with Drew & Trent! 22 January 2016

(Possible Spoilers)

I am so in love with Drew & Trent!

Drew Forrester, total adrenaline #Junkie, is looking for more in his life. He has his family, his best friend Trent, and his beloved 1969 Mustang. But he craves more. He wants to experience that feeling he gets, when he's behind the wheel, flying down the street, all the time. When a opportunity arises for indie drivers like him to make a name for themselves, he's more than ready. And with Trent by his side, who always believes in him, his car, and lots of heart, Drew Forrester is at the starting line ready to show the world what he's got. As ready as he is for this shot, is he ready to face whats happening between him and his best friend.

Trent Mask, beloved best friend, president of his fraternity, football player, is also looking for more in his life. He feels something is missing. And with graduation approaching, wondering what comes next is starting to weigh him down. The only time he doesn't seem to feel lost is when he's with Drew, but lately being around Drew is starting to bring out feelings that he has kept pushed down. And with pressure form his fraternity, these feelings toward his best friend, and what comes next, Trent seems to have more questions than answers. But he knows one thing, he doesn't want to loose Drew.

I LOVED every bit of this book. I knew I would. The Hashtag series is one of my favorite, and when I heard we were getting a spin-off series with Drew & Trent I could not be happier. Reading about their friendship when it first started back in #Poser, I just knew these two were going to hold a special place in my heart and I was right. Their story is one beautiful, sexy, funny, I want more and more, make me feel all the feels, kind of book.

Drew, Oh man do I love this scruffy, sexy, loyal, adrenaline junkie of a man! I loved being inside his head. Not only was he funny and cocky, he's vulnerable and sweet, and loves his family fiercely. He is trying to find himself. He wants to be someone other than what his father always excepted. You really seem him grow and reach for what wants.

Trent, oh Trent, did he make my heart ache, and make me want to hold him in my arms and give him the biggest hug. Trent is a beautiful character to read. His tenderness mixed with his tough and protective attitude. His love for his group of friends, that became his family. He was dealing with so many thoughts and emotions, but stayed strong, held his head high, and started to believe in himself.

I love these two characters so much. Their friendship that turned to so much more. They fight for each other, they have so much love, a bond, that I want to read more of, and over and over. And are these two HOT! That fist kiss...... Wow that was a first kiss to remember. ;)

Cambria Hebert is a amazingly talented writer, she brings to life these characters that wiggle their way into your heart, they stay with you long after the story has ended. The love, the funny one liners, the action, I felt like I was riding shotgun in the fastback every time Drew raced. It was a exhilarating book, fast paced and left me craving more Trent & Drew!
5.0 out of 5 stars I knew there was something there and I was super excited when she announced that the book was going ... 26 January 2016

Oh man, oh man. Seriously, be still, my beating heart. These two boys definitely stole it and put it through the ringer. I find it kind of fitting that #Junkie is the very first book that I've finished of 2016. This book is a spinoff of the Hashtag series, which began with #Nerd, the first book that I finished in 2015. A whole new year, a whole new series, and a whole new genre.

As I was reading the Hashtag books I immediately new that something was up between Drew and Trent when they first began interacting with one another. I'm not even sure if Cambria knew where the future of these two characters was going to go but I just felt it. I knew there was something there and I was super excited when she announced that the book was going to be an M/M romance.

I spent every day after the book was annnounced in agony. I wanted to read this book so badly and literally fangirled every time something new was posted; a teaser, a graphic, anything. And then Cambria offered me an ARC of the book fifteen days before it was scheduled to be released. I thought I was going to die from excitement.

And ya know what? Drew and Trent didn't let me down. One of the reasons I was so excited for this is because the majority of M/M romance is pure smut. There's hardly any emotional connection and it's over as quickly as it began. I have no problems with smut, in fact I love smut, but I love reading about how the characters feel when they realize something so new and different about themselves. I love reading about feelings and a love so strong that it completely changes their idea of who they thought they have always been. That's where LGBT romances get me. Right in the heart.

#Junkie was all of that and more. These two strong, courageous men took me on an emotional ride and didn't let go. I understand perfectly why Cambria and other authors might be a little hesitant about writing stories like this or feel a little pressured to do it a certain way. I'm sure it must be challenging and overwhelming to write about something so hard and emotional, something that you've never experienced in your own life, but Cambria did it so well.

Trent and Drew were amazing together in every way possible. Their story was heartbreaking and beautiful and nerve-wracking and perfect. If I ever believed that two characters needed and deserved to be together, it's these two. When the Hashtag series first began, I fell in love with Romeo and Rimmel. With Braeden and Ivy, I fell head over heels, feeling stronger for those two than I ever did for Romeo and Rimmel. But Trent and Drew are on an entirely different level. From the very beginning I was pulled in the direction of Trent, wondering what his role in the story would be, wondering why we weren't learning more about him. He was such a great character, so why wasn't he getting his time?

When Drew was introduced I was confused at first. Who is this guy and... do I like him? Do I dislike him? What was he going to add to the story? What was his deal? And then he met Trent and I knew. I just knew. They were perfect and it was perfect. The whole time I was praying that Hebert was going to take them in the direction that I felt they were needed to go. And she did and it was amazing.

Everything about this works and I couldn't get enough. The only bad thing is that the second book hasn't been written yet and I have to wait to see what happens next. ;)

Rating: 5 Stars, hands down.
Favorite Character: Trent.
