A worthwhile read, I only gave it four stars as I kept thinking of the original 'Tarzan' & comparing it - but I would still recommend this book.
In Jungle Heat, we've got Tarzan meets Jane. And it's a heck of a meeting and a jungle full of heat and danger and intrigue and Victorian stupidity and even some evil thrown in along the way.
But in the end, even though this can be a slow-moving narrative at times, this one not only hits the mark, but swings from the trees. A superb retelling of an original idea, and a book no one interested in true historical m/m romance should miss.
This story was so great that it snuck up on me. It was a bond that grew slowly and two men learned to love each other without many words between them. I loved James and Michael and was happy the way this story ended. I loved it!
It felt true to Historical Romance and how the genre was written 10 years ago-- ie let-me-describe-everything-to-death -so-you-really-feel-like-you-are-there. I prefer the more modern approach to historical rom which dispenses with that but for a lot of people it will only add to the experience.
This was a very sweet love story with some fairly spicy sex scenes even if they were a bit repetitive. I believe every act happened in three's but am not totally sure.
All in all, this is definitely a cut above most m/m romance.
