Recently my 93 mother's dementia progressed to the point that she requred assisted living in a nursing home. She was devastated that she could not take her two cats with her. She misses them more than anything. I heard about these Joy for All cats and gave her one for her birthday complete with basket and bow around its neck. One of her cats is called Lucy so I purchased a ginger one just like Lucy and named her Lucette. She is Lucy's cousin from Canada that heard of my mother's plight and flew from Canada to be with her. Lucette now has her own collar with her name on it and also mum's name so she can be returned as there are several Joy for All cats in the Nursing Home. The cats do everything that they say on the box purr, meow, wiggle their ears, blink their eyes and offer three modes, movement off, silent and full vocals that are very realistic. The result is that Mum dotes on Lucette as a surrogate for Lucy. I take her other grey cat Chippy to visit her on weekends and a great deal of the pain of separation has been alleviated. I am delighted that she has taken so well to Lucette. My only comment is that is that it is difficult to clean Lucette's fur. Elderly people do tend to be like children and stroke their pets with sticky hands and I would love the manufacturer's to come up with a way of washing their fur more easily because you cannot remove it (of course) to clean it. That is my only comment....however I would definitely buy another one and happy recommend these cats to anyone in a similar situation. Value for Money? Absolutely!!!!

+ Life-like fur
- Lots of loose fur to start off with, needs a good brush in first use.
+ Life-like sounds, meows, ours, heartbeat etc.
- Meows way way to often, it's constant once it gets going to the point of being annoying and unrealistic. Any real cat meowing that much has issues.. Fortunately it has a mute switch which you will set it to after the first hour and leave it there.
+ Good range of movements, rolls on it's belly, raises it's paw to mouth, turns head.
- Very loud mechanical noise when it moves
- Cannot have firm hold on cat as when it tried to move it cannot overcome your arms/hands so you can hear the motor and gears slipping. Imagine prolonged exposure to this will break it.
Overall it is the most realistic robot cat I've ever seen. Bought for a child that loves cats and she is wrapped.
Took it to grandma's who has dementia and she really believed it was a real cat.
3.5/5 stars - Overall very realistic but let down by overuse of the meowing and the issue with the cats movement while holding it.

I just lost my cat of nine years when my husband got me this for my Christmas present. I love that this cat is the roughly the same weight as a real cat and even has a cheeky sense of humour. The more you interact with it-the more life like it becomes for you. Our daughter is saving for the puppy since she really isn't a cat person. Great for people with disabilities. Doesn't take up much space and runs on c size batteries. Option to have a vocal meow or just purr.

The life like size, weight and feel were positive attributes as well as the cat like sounds and responses. The elderly recipient of the cat was overjoyed with her gift. A negative though is the mechanical sound that can be heard accompanying certain movements.

My dad loves cats and is currently living in a home. I bought him this cat and from the moment he was given it, he wouldn't let it go. It was such a success that the home bought another cat and dog for the rest of the residents at the home.

Like the interactive nature of plush pet. It was bought for a person with dementia in age care who misses their live pet. It seems to have been well received.

Better than the pics.. Surprised how good it is
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2019Verified Purchase
Well, things like this are not cheap, seems to very between £93 and £200 around the global markets place
However...1.Appearance/looks: This looks better in the flesh (or fur LOL) thank it does on the screen, video or photo wise. Some pics on line makes the cat look very large...but it is just the right size as a medium to small cat. lays on its side curled up with head sitting up perfectly on top of a home HP printer scanner tip for example or a rectangle dinner tray...just. Ears inside look dark flesh like..shape of legs paw pads very good visibly.
2. "Feel/touch/weight. A lot of mixed perception on the internet over this part...so this is my take on it from my point of view and based on reaction from my mother who has dementia.
On picking it up out of the box it was not as heavy as some online describe..maybe that was another version? Make? Not too light so as to give the impression of cheap build, yet not too heavy for an elderly person either. FEEL... Lets be realistic here ,its never going to be as sgwiggy (only phrase I can think of) as a real cat, because it is a robot under the fur with hard plastic chassy, however ,coming from a family who as growing up had so many pets including 8 cats over the years and experience of friends and relations cats, some are boney under the fur..so it's more plausable to someone who's cognitive abilities have had an impairment.
My wife who has worked with looking after people within dementia and currently works with stroke patients..agreed...some may ask questions but in a different way..for example" ooo she's a bit stiff underneath is she a bit poorly..?" Looking for a rational reason as opposed to us saying to ourselves. "You CAN tell its not real, but its an amazing likeness and effort to simulate".
The ears are fairly hard, this is because of the mechanism that make the ears move,twitch..when you sometimes stroke or touch them due to this cat having sensors that react to touch. When you stroke the fur. If you don't press down hard the fur is quite nice to stroke and would be a comfort.
Lets race it ever some adults have had a cuddly item from a loved one or from child hood what you're get attached to and even speak to..so this could still be agood company even if its known that its mechanical . the movements made by the motors inside are quite good..little jerky and also as your pick it up for the first tine you're will instantly feel the gap half way down the body..though gives a slighlt loose floppy feel which may help with its imitation of a cat personia ..this is where the cat rotates onto its back..well its head and top half..simulator for "tickle my belly " If however the person has there hand down on that area it will.make and unusual whining sound...now taking about
3.Sounds: if the cat. Following on from above, the which will be from the car trying to move onto it's back bit the person cuddling or hand slightly pushing down men's there is some resistance and on one occasion with my mother the background ends rotated..which still worked and got a chuckle. The.motor starts to make a motor sound just before the rotation is quite evident but mostly dementia patients seem to wonder where its coming from rather than rationall if it coming from a cat. I embellished with my mother stating he had a fall and supervet had to give some artificial bionic parts in an operation..so she will need to be carried as cannot walk or jump down...justice needs lovely and cuddles and strokes...the "Meeoow" is a little loud but not as loud as some has made out...and sound level is about average for a cat ,though that's down to perception as we all have different hearing sensitivity. However its VEERY realistic and has variations and lengths of the meow. The BEST part of the sound is the Purring ,realistic? "YES " absolutely.. You can feel it too which will be very therapeutic for many...
4.General : As you stroke side of face it reacts...eyes actually blink ! Sometimes it loojs up at you as well while giving a small meow .
When on Mute mode..the cat will stop meowing BUT don't worry the purring and movements still work. If no touch interaction for more than a minute or two..the cat goes into a sleep mode.... To save batteries...and yes it actually closes it's eyes! Probably one way to know if switched on, as when off I think eyes stay open.
Underbelly is where you pull back part of valcro held fur where access to red switch clearly marked. on..off..mute options. Also screw driver required (Philips) to undo battery cover which takes 4 x "C" size barrel type batteries.
If possible I will include video demo I made the day before I took it to my.mums...who's reaction was lovely...to the point she was worries about the main road and cat may run out...hence the disabled cat story status to point out it has to be carried around...and don't worry. the people here said they would feed her, take her to litter tray and if needed, the vet...all she has to do is give her strokes, company and cuddles. Though my mother wants us to get her a collar...bless her :)
In summery this product was better than the expectations of it..and gives will give my mother a lovely focus and interaction.
Sadly Amazon will now allow my youtube link for my video on this and their video upload feature doesn't seem to work. So just search on you tube for.
Joy for all B7592 orange and you should find it.
I hope Amazon allow this review with the effort I have put into this for the benefit of families who have a loved one with a mental health condition... I will not be attempting another.

There are not enough good words in the English language to describe this wonderful cat. My mother suffers from Parkinson's disease, and Lewy Body Syndrome. She is 90 years of age, and now must reside in a nursing home. A year ago she became anxious and irritated beyond control. Her life had become even more of a Hell. Searching for help online I saw the "Joy for Life" cat. I instantly ordered it , not knowing if it would help. The moment the cat arrived my mother calmed. She believes the cat to be real, and calls it "Cinnamon". Her life has become on of peace. The cat never leaves her arms, even during sleep. Seeing the change in my mother , the nursing home has ordered some for therapy, and other families have purchased a "Joy for Life" cat for their loved one. It is like a miracle to see the changes To see my mother smile. I wish I had more words to praise Hasbro, but for now I am stuck with "Thank You".
