Product Description

This Christmas novella is the first book in my White River Wolves Series.

A doctor for the White River Wolves, Josie Bennett is devoted to her pack and her calling to heal those in need. Then one fateful night changes everything.

As an enforcer for the Shifter Council, Ryker Kain has pledged himself to the council and dedicated his life to serving and protecting its members.

Ryker and Josie cross paths when Ryker is sent to track down a rogue wolf pack that has kidnapped and terrorized a young female fox shifter. Unable to fight the mate bond, they surrender to the undeniable desire between them.

When Ryker must leave to complete his mission, will the passion that brought them together be enough to fight the ties that threaten to tear them apart?

4.0 out of 5 stars B rating... 3 January 2015

My Review:

This series is centered around the town/village/settlement of White River. In this village, Josie is the doctor and is a wolf shifter. While out running as a wolf, she comes across a kidnapped bear shifter child and rescues him. That brings Ryker to her...he's a bear shifter who works for RARE...the law enforcement agency for the shifter community.

This is an insta-love story since immediately the two know they are mates....which I can accept as a story line in the shifter world.

There were several things that I really liked about the story...
*I liked that Josie is a strong character who's very independent. Her job as the settlement doctor worked for me. I loved how she immediately went into that strong protective mode the minute she realized the cub was in danger. As a doctor her job is to heal, but that doesn't stop her from being aggressive physically when she has to.
*I liked the heat between Ryker and Josie. I also really liked how protective he was of her. Ryker is a serious alpha-like character (but not an alpha in the pack hierarchy)...he's protective and definitely works to shield the women around him...both Josie and his partner. I love that he's in law enforcement and that bit of story made me curious about the RARE series.
*I LOVED the hints of the story about the settlement alphas who are mated, but at odds. I want to definitely know more about them and their history. I expect they will have their own novel soon because every time they were on the page, they managed to steal the scene.
*The kidnapping pointed to a larger conspiracy. I'm interested to see where the author goes with that.

I really enjoyed the story overall, although I didn't feel as connected to Ryker as a character as I did Josie, but even from the title you get that...this is Josie's story. There were a few minor weaknesses in the writing, but it's definitely a promising start to this series. I'll probably check out the next in the series when it comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book 5 December 2014

I love this book! It is a new series but I love how it crosses with Dawn's R. A. R. E. Series. Now we have double the action, characters to love and everything falls right into place. No you do not have to read the R. A. R. E. Series to read this novella. The love, kindness, and bonds that are built in this book will have you wishing for the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it. 9 December 2014

This is the first book in a new series by Dawn Sullivan, but it felt like it was a continuation of another series, maybe because it crosses her R.A.R.E series (I have not read her R.A.R.E. series. I garnered this information from a review posted for this book on Goodreads). For me some of the characters felt a little flat, like I should already feel like I know them. This did seem to be more the case with members of the R.A.R.E team that makes several appearances in this book. Most of them are minor characters in this story though, so this wasn't a significant failing.

If you read my #BookBlogWriMo posts in November, you know that I really don't like insta-love in books, and well, this book had it. However, it felt a lot more reasonable and acceptable in Josie's Miracle than it has in any other book I've read up to this point. The characters in this book live in a universe where they know without a shadow of a doubt that there is a perfect mate for them somewhere, and because they are shifters they have increased scent sensitivity. I'm sure if humans could smell a person and know that they were meant to be together based on that, we'd have a lot more insta-love in real life.

When Josie and Ryker meet for the first time, the lust in the room is so thick you could cut it with a knife. It was a relief to me when they were finally able to consummate their relationship, giving each other a mate mark, which I think is sort of like a permanent hickey, but it's a mark of honor, not shame. The sex scenes were decent. They were mildly descriptive, and I could picture what was going on, but I didn't feel it like I do with sex scenes that are really well written.

Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It didn't have any major issues, but it did have enough minor ones to prevent it from earning a full five stars. I realize that this review seems awfully negative because unfortunately there wasn't anything about it that I just absolutely loved, and sometimes it's easier for me to talk about the things that didn't work for me in a book than the things that did. But I did enjoy reading it even though I wasn't able to convey that very well, and I would still definitely recommend it to people that enjoy a good shifter romance in spite of my lousy review.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's so beautiful! Dawn has done it again 6 December 2014
By Tabitha Holmes - Published on Amazon.com

It's so beautiful! Dawn has done it again! I just love this book! Josie is amazing! She's strong, dedicated, determined, and a hell of a fighter. From the very first chapter I was enthralled. I felt so proud of Josie! She is very protective! I think she brought out a side of herself that even she didn't know about. This is a novella about a woman who finally finds her true mate after waiting for so long, only to find out that she would have to wait even longer to find out if it is even possible for them to be together! So she does what any woman would do... she immersed herself in her work. She is a born healer; the woman wouldn't hurt a soul.... well unless she had to! The woman can be down right vicious when she needs to be! But she has a heart of gold!

Ryker is perfect! From the very beginning he protects Josie. It doesn't matter who it is that has a problem with his mate, he is there to take on anyone who shows any kind of aggression towards her. Now that's the kind of protective alphaness I love! The connection between the two is instant, like as soon as Ryker scents Josie, he knows he just has to have her! And he is GORGEOUS! He's not your typical shifter... and Josie always though her mate was a wolf! Ha! Guess fate fooled her!

I highly recommend this book! I am just so horribly sad it's over and I CANNOT wait for the next book in this series! Even though Dawn made me cry! Yes, there is a certain part in the book where my heart just stopped. I just couldn't breathe! Sometimes, books have twists and turns that you just don't see coming, and this is one of them! I just can't describe it! You just have to go read it! 5 stars!

*What another great start to another fantastic series. I think I’m really starting to like shifters. There is none of the usual BS that couples go through. They look at each other and know instantly they will be together. There is no drama in mating. I like that. The only drama is The General kidnapping shifters and RARE rescuing them. I can’t wait to see where Dawn goes with this series. I love how it intertwines with the RARE Series. I highly recommend this book/series.
