Jock Reign: Jock Hard Book 5 Kindle Edition
IT’S NOT EASY LIVING IN YOUR BROTHERS SHADOW.
Jack Dryden-Jones is easily the worst rugby player on the field—when he moves to The States to follow in his big brothers footsteps, he has no idea he’d hate the game. So horrible he considers faking an injury to take himself out of the game.
Jack is a quick-witted and comic book loving gentleman—not an athlete.
DO NOT DATE YOUR ROOMMATES CRUSH.
When her roommate brings home a random stranger, Eliza is shocked when he makes himself at home; strapping, strong and watching a movie at the end of her couch as if he belongs there.
It makes her uncomfortable in the best way possible.
But if there is one thing she believes in, it’s GIRL CODE: No girl may date her friend's ex, past crush, or guys who have humiliated/used her. And she most certainly may not date any guy her friend currently fancies...
DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Jack and Eliza are two of the good ones—it’s going to take a miracle to keep them apart.

In Jock Reign, we meet Eliza and Jack. If you've read Jock Royal, then you'll know that Jack is Ashley's younger brother, the brother who is completely opposite to him in every way. Jack and his brother Ashley have just traded places. Ashley has just moved back to England while Jack has moved to the States to finish his last year of college. Jack's brother Ashley was well known on campus for his rugby abilities and everyone seems to think Jack has the same knack due to his build and size. Little do they know that Jack is far from athletic. He'd rather stay in watching movies and reading comics than be out. Wanting to fit in and get to know his teammates, Jack attends a party hoping to find a girl for the night, but when he gets back to her place, he finds himself intrigued with Eliza, the girl's roommate. Coincidental meetings soon has Jack finding himself attracted to Eliza and wanting to spend more time with her.
Eliza is a bit of an introvert. She loves drawing her little cartoons and watching movies. When she meets her roommate's latest crush, she finds herself intrigued with the Brit as he's different from most jocks. Chance encounters has her thinking about Jack more than she should be and she's all about girl code. When her roommates kick her out, she has no place to go until Jack offers her the spare room at his place. Intent on remaining friends, she makes house rules that both need to abide by. Living in close proximity and sharing the same interests, a stormy night soon has her giving into her desires for Jack.
From movies to running in the wrong direction on the rugby field, this was such a fun story to read. I loved the banter, sweet and charming personalities of both characters. Eliza and Jack were adorable together and I enjoyed their meet-cute. Sara Ney has always been one of my go-to authors for sports romcoms, and after reading this story, she will remain on my go-to list.
Jack is literally the younger carbon copy of Ashley. Except for one major thing. And it was downright entertaining and hilarious reading Jack struggle with something that Ashley excelled at. But just like Ashley Jack is a big ole teddy bear. I loved the slow burn between himself and Eliza. That they became friends first with an undercurrent of attraction brewing the whole time made for addictive reading. It made sense why Eliza didn’t want to jump straight into anything with Jack, but when her hand was forced, well game on I say. The ending of this book reveals that there is at least one more book to come and I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Jock Reign follows on from Jock Royal, book four in the series, with the hero being Ashley's younger brother Jack. Despite the continuance, each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone. Jack is so over-the-top British and an absolute delight! Seriously. Many times throughout this story, I stopped and thought to myself 'I really want a cuppa with this lad'. The heroine, Eliza, was sweet, introverted, and 'nerdy' in the best way possible. Basically, she's someone I would definitely want to be friends with.
I really loved all of the contrasting themes in this book. There were cultural differences between the Brits and Americans, and social differences between those athletically-focused and those who aren't. Not to mention, Jack and Eliza's relationship (and attitudes towards relationships) compared to most others featured within the book. It made for a really fun, entertaining story.
Obviously, I don't want to give too many of the details away and the book's blurb really does sum things up really well; but I will point out that Ney's writing and storytelling only gets better with every book. This story is laugh-out-loud funny, and features a fun cast of characters and a sweet but steamy romance between Jack and Eliza.
I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to everyone who enjoys new adult romance, romantic comedies, and/or sports romances! And if you love all three, then you're really in luck! Also, while you're at it, check out Ney's other series too - especially The Trophy Boyfriend and How to Date a Douchebag series which are also favourites of mine.
As an additional side note, that storm scene was 🔥
Which means you must have read book#4, Jock Royal!
Let it be known the key words here are: Dryden-Jones, rugby, roommates. All I can say is here we go again…
Jack Dryden-Jones is currently the hottest commodity on campus. Adorably polite, imposing and larger than life, unlike his older brother Ashley he’s actually pretty crap at rugby, yet somehow he’s made the team...
He meets a girl at a rugby party who likes him but it turns out he’s more interested in her roommate Eliza because she’s more natural, more genuine and has similar interests to him.
