This book is based on the true story of an African dog named Jock. Jock was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross that lived with his owner, Sir Patrick Percy FitzPatrick in the Transvaal’s Bushveld (today South Africa). Sir Patrick worked as a storeman, prospector’s assistant, journalist and ox-wagon transporter and later he became a writer. This all happened during the end of the 19th century.
