Product description

Product Description

The life of the 20th-century philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti was truly astonishing. As this new updated edition shows, people from all over the world would gather to hear him speak the wisdom of the ages.

Krishna was born into poverty in a South Indian village, before being adopted by a wealthy English public figure, Annie Besant. As an adult he settled in California, travelling to India and England every year to give public lectures that inspired spiritual seekers beyond any single religion.

Biographer Christine Williams carried out research over a period of four years to write this ebook account of Krishnamurti's life. She studied his massive archive of personal correspondence and talks, and interviewed people who knew him intimately.

His key message of freedom of the mind resonated with Hindus and Buddhists alike, as well as many humanists in the West.

Philosopher, teacher, lover, mystic – Krishnamurti lived all of these roles to the full.

5.0 out of 5 stars Krishnamurti - the balanced account 26 February 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I have read several Krishnamurti life stories and I could not see much point in reading yet another. I'm glad I relented and decided to read this latest version because I think it is probably the most useful. It is written with a journalist's eye: the facts are reported as far as they are accessible to the author and they come free of the distortions which creep into accounts written by the protagonists in the many disputes and legal wrangles Krishnamurti found himself involved in. It is also free of the rose-tinted enthusiasms of the devotee. The book delivers a clear picture of Krishnamurti's strengths and weaknesses.

Not a great book as the author doesn't really understand the teaching and likes to interject her own interpretation and commentary. Basically I find her irritating

5.0 out of 5 stars Jiddu Krishnamurti World Philosopher Revised Edition 23 February 2013

Great story of a great life! If this book hadn't been recommended to me, I would never have known how important a public thinker Krishnamurti was, nor how relevant his ideas still are today. CV Williams has produced a brilliant body of research on the philosopher, from his romances to his words of wisdom. A terrific read.
