Two men with a shared history and a mutual attraction must be honest with themselves and each other so both their dreams come true.

Quiet, unassuming Tanner Sellers spends his time running a diner in Hope, Arizona. But Steve is his friend’s father and mentor’s widower and therefore off-limits.
Despite some challenges, thirty-nine-year-old Steve Faus has had a good life. He’s extremely successful at work, has a great relationship with his college-age son, and lives in a wonderful town. Eighteen months after losing his partner, the one thing Steve lacks is someone to share his life. If Steve is honest with himself, that someone is the young man he has known and cared about for years. Steve and Tanner want one another, all they need is a little push in the right direction to make both their dreams come true.

Reviewed for Kindle Friends Forever by Klaire Sutherland

I liked this one a touch better than McFarland’s Farm, I moved straight to this from book one as they are both short reads. Standalones but do feature previous characters in passing. Again, a couple of hours reading time at most. The title is better for this one, as well as the cover, in fact I love the cover.

Loveable characters from the start with Jesse’s Diner, in particular Tanner. The shy workaholic virgin who is crushing on his best friends Dad. The storyline is a little more complex than that but it’s best read to get the ins and outs. Steve is a lot older than Tanner but it doesn’t diminish the relationship in any way. They have the cuteness factor in spades; attempted flirting not always coming off the right way, Tanner’s obvious inexperience. Low in angst but there was a serious subject matter in Jesse’s Diner that probably warranted a longer story, or rather it could have been a longer story. It felt like no big deal when really it is. Some steam again to keep the story rolling over, placed well of course and a pleasing outcome for both.

I think this is what readers call cookie cutter fluff yes? You can read it and enjoy it but the story doesn’t do all that much except satisfy you for the moment. Still, I read it in one sitting and liked it so something is working. Book three…bring on the Sherriff.

Cardeno C's books are like an addiction. You know what you are going to get - a little bit of sweet, a whole lotta sexy and a HEA - and I can't get enough.

Tanner and Steve's is kind of a May to December relationship - Steve's not old but there is a significant age difference.

Steve is Tanner's best friends' dad, and he has been crushing on him for years... what he didn't know was what Steve was feeling.

I adored that Tanner and Steve had a non-romantic relationship for a long time before things turned all sexy hot and romantic. There is such a difference in their experiences - both in life and love. Tanner is completely clueless to Steve's flirting, which I found just adorable.

There were some things with Steve that I would have liked expanded upon, but know that these things are not possible in a novella length story.

I love love loved Steve's son Mike - the cheeky little devil that he is. He is a mischief maker - with the greatest of intentions!

I really think that this is my favourite Cardeno C book... to date!

A Cardeno C book is like a catching up with a good friend - and I can't wait to catch up again.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Jesse's Dinner made my knees weak. Even hours after finishing the book pieces of the story would flash in my mind filling me with pleasure and making me smile. This story of the 22 year old virgin and the 39 year old widow is a lovely romance. It is also incredibly hot and had me chuckling in a few places. Wonderful story.

Cute, little read. Just right for a pep up. Tanner was the somewhat clueless sweetheart. Steve was man, all muscles and mass. Yu-uh-umm. Their romance was timed perfectly for them both.
Get it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 11 October 2015

This is a Cardeno C book and it tells the story of thirty-nine year Steve and twenty-two year old Tanner. May/December romance has always been one of my favourite theme. Steve was a quarterback and Tanner is implied to be effeminate, a masc fem couple would push another of my hot button. So why did I find this book such a disappointment? One reason I can think of is that the story is missing the journey of how these two unlikely people fall in love. The book opens with Tanner already into his 6th year of his crush on Steve, and this crush is reciprocated. Within weeks this crush grows into love with everyone's blessing including Steve's twenty year old son and the end. Perhaps CC intended this to be a short and angst free love story but by leaving out drama and angst, the story ended up flat and unengaging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kudos 24 October 2015

I loved this book!
It was sweet and well written.
The romance was there along with the innocence of finding love.
However, the only thing that really deterred this book from being a 5 star for me was length. If that author had taken the time to develop more for me as a reader, by adding 30 or so more pages, then I would have come out very satisfied.
Sadly, I felt parts of slightly lacking due to the books length. Although the story itself was beautiful and sexy.

The sex itself in the book wasn't very erotic. But the parts that weren't actual sex, were.

I'm not sure if the author intended this or was afraid to write about a (spoiler alert) HIV gay man having sex- and maybe that's why the sex itself wasn't played with more. My mother is HIV positive so I've grown up more than 1/2 of my life dealing with the virus, which is one of the biggest reasons I read this book. I loved that the author didn't make it a huge deal with Steve and Mike, that she didn't give in to mass hysteria and ignorance and focused more on the two grown adults loving each other and willing to overcome an obstacle to be together. I give her huge Kudos for that!

I would highly recommend this book.
The only thing you need to understand as a reader is the book is short and will leave you mildly unsatisfied at the end, because you'll love it so much and need more.

P.S. To the author- Cardeno C- Please write a squeal to this. I'd love to read it. (Wishful thinking, I know, but I had to note it.)

This is the first book I've read with this particular 'medical issue' and while I was glad the story wasn't "in your face" about it, I still wish their budding relationship had been a little more focused on dealing with it.

It's still a good May/December romance. Well written. Not much angst.

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally Unexpected, Pleasantly Surprised 29 October 2015

This one starts off a little more hesitantly than most of Cardeno's books--but once is gets on a tumbleweed roll in this little town of Hope, Arizona, it just keeps bringing those smiles to your face and warmth in your heart.

Tanner Sellers is much too young and much too fragile looking to be running the diner which his late friend, Jesse, left him. Steve Taus, Jesse's widower, is totally opposite in body parts (large and bearish) but contemplative and circumspect, even more so now that Jesse's gone.

How they get together, move along together, and stay together, is sweetly told and punctuated by a couple of other interesting characters, including Tanner's best friend, who happens to be the very straight son of Jesse and Steve. Nice, chewy, cozy appetizer of a love story here. Enjoy it.

Tanner and ! This is a wonderful short story (@2 hrs.) that is full of deep character development, it's interesting, and has super hot sexiness. Everything we like. Tanner runs the Diner and has wanted Steve for a long time, and Steve is a Medical Salesman is now about two years out from his partner dying. Events are finally lining up these two to let each other know they are interested in each other. Tanner, 22 has never had a date, kiss or sex, frankly because, he's a smaller man, and only wanted big strong Steve. Age doesn't concern him. Steve, 39, was 19 when he and his partner got together and raised an adopted son, so, no, age doesn't matter. This wonderful story is sweet, sexy, heartwarming, passionate, exciting and has true love.
Great short story....ENJOY !!!
