Well, these tools can crack it. They worked great. No slippage - they fit my 2011 model iPad Air perfectly. I was able to get in and replace a defective power unit on the board. It cost be $30 in total. Apple had already "diagnosed" my machine and told me it would cost $500 - so these babies paid for themselves. I did make sure to lock my doors and close my blinds while working - lest the Apple Troops sniper me from 1000 yards.
The stiff plastic spudger is perfectly suited for dealing with the ridiculously tiny and fragile ribbon cable "flaps" all over the Macbook. Much higher quality than the one I got with the iPhone screen replacement kits.
It also came with a zipper case that I wasn't expecting to get, so that was a nice bonus.
I was able to compete a moderately complex repair on my MacBook Air, thanks to this toolkit. Specifically, I installed a (Replacement Part 923-0125 MacBook Air 13" I/O Magsafe Board for APPLE). I would not have attempted this repair unless I had this toolkit.
You will also want this tooklit if you plan to upgrade the SSD in your macBook.
Great addition to my "digital survival kit" of various pry bars, screen replacers, itsy-bitsy screwdrivers and now a fully certified pair of devil-screw and hexa-screw drivers for those impossibly teeny yet somehow trendy hipster screws which hold together the Macbook Pro Retina 15". You can't be expecting to have any hipster/artist cred lugging around a macbook with half the screws missing from the bottom now can you? these devil-screw screwdrivers will help you get your hipster cred back.
I received my set today and I was beyond pleasantly surprised. They come with a very nice cloth bag which you can through into a kit or bag for field work. Inside the bag the screwdrivers and a spudger. The screwdrivers are very nicely made, no monkey metal here. They have a nice dark chrome finish and some rubber bits for grip. These are also the first set of small screwdrivers that the twist top actually works without it catching or not spinning smooth. The heads are very well molded and sharp so there isn't much of a chance of your screws getting stripped.
If you need to work on a MacBook do yourself a favor, spend the extra few bucks and grab these. You will be glad you did!
It came promptly (as I do have Amazon Prime and this is eligible). It comes as picture, but ALSO comes in a very nice zipped case.
The screw drivers themselves are a solid and "professional"
The supplier also includes a nice touch which is a card, thanking you for your purchase and asking you to contact them is anything is wrong which shows they stand behind their products and service AND which is why MANY of us shop at Amazon !
Good Job JBtek ! Thanks
If you do not have any experience, buy these and get someone who has this type of experience. They will know your serious because you have your own correct tools and you plan to learn the skill and practice it. These come with a nice case to store the tools, you can even fit a static strap inside. I received this item on time. Could not ask for better service from the supplier!
I really like the weight of these tools. They are heavier than most, since they are made of metal versus most other whose grips are constructed entirely of plastic. They have a good feel in the hand and are well-balanced. They also come with a pouch to hold the tools... nice touch.
I would recommend this item to anyone who needs access to any of their Apple products. Next project, fixing a reluctant Home button on an iPhone 4.
If you have the Macbook Pro Mid 2009, DO NOT order this. Although you need a '5 point' screwdriver, the one listed here is a T5 screw driver. And it is too small in diameter. The Macbook Pro Mid 2009 battery is held by two P5 screws.
Make sure you buy the correct set.
The Q&A for this item has poor content. Most people are guessing and not doing their research. Not all macbooks are created equal.
If you have a Macbook Pro Mid 2009, you need a P5 'Pentalobe 5 star screw driver'.
I was initially in a rush (spilled coffee on the laptop, wanted to fix it right away) and bought some less well made tools at Fries while waiting on these to come, they not only cost more money, they were worse, and didn't get the job done.
