Sleep Sounds plays calming sound loops to help you fall asleep faster, sleep better, relax, meditate, or drown out distracting noises.
This is the official Sleep Sounds Skill by Invoked Apps, a top-rated Alexa developer trusted by millions of Echo device owners.
HOW TO USE:
Get started by saying "Alexa, open Sleep Sounds" and Alexa will ask you what sound loop you would like to hear.
To start a sound immediately or change sounds while a sound is playing, just say "Alexa, ask Sleep Sounds to play thunderstorms" or another sound of choice.
For a full list of available sounds, say "Alexa, ask Sleep Sounds for a list". Alexa will speak a list of supported sounds and place a readable list in the Alexa smartphone app.
By default, Sleep Sounds will play your selected sound until you say "Alexa, stop", but you can set a custom timer while a sound is playing by saying "Alexa, stop in 3 hours" or any other time duration.
If you're feeling a little adventurous, say "random" to let Sleep Sounds pick a sound for you!

I love this skill! I usually have a very hard time relaxing at bedtime, my brain just kept on bouncing. Since I’ve been listening to Sleep sounds I have been getting off to sleep so much easier and faster than ever before. I can start listening to distant thunderstorms, set a timer to stop playing in 30mins and I am rarely still awake when it stops playing. I highly recommend this skill for total body and mind relaxation, love love love it!
1.0 out of 5 starsWould be great, but stops and starts every hour. Premium service available, but at a monthly fee.

This is a review of the free skill. There is a premium product offered for a monthly fee that i'll discuss below.
The sounds from this skill are fine, and do the job, but unfortunately, the noise stops for a second or so every hour, then restarts, and this is enough to wake me, thereby ruining the app entirely. I can find no way to bypass this "feature" short of upgrading to the premium product.
Now, what about the premium product? It apparently costs $1.99/month, and provides additional sounds, the ability to combine two sounds, and longer "loops" that presumably would eliminate the sound gaps I got with the free product.
There is a free 14 day trial period, if you're interested in trying it out, but it is probably one of those things that will automatically start charging you if you forget to cancel. No thanks.
I’ve been using the Sleep Machine iPhone app for many years - probably since I got my first iPhone in 2011. I believe it cost me $1.99 when I bought it, offers dozens and dozens (if not hundreds) of sounds and music, allows the user almost an infinite number of combinations and permutations of these sounds (including custom sound levels for each sound), has an integrated alarm (that I use every morning), works on the road when I don’t have my Echo devices with me, and most of all, has no monthly fee. I paid once, and that was all.
It does require a connection between my iPhone and my Echo, and I'm using Bluetooth right now (used to use a direct connection, but am experimenting with Bluetooth - it works well, but does hiccup occasionally, so I might have to go back to a direct connection). Not the most convenient thing, but it's free.
Had I been paying $1.99/month every month since 2011, my night time noise machine would have cost me $160 dollars, and this charge would continue ad infinitum, as long as I continue to use it.
I realize there is a recurring costs associated with hosting a service like this, but as a user, all I can look at are the features of a product, and the cost associated with that product, and make a value judgement. For $24/year, year after year, the convenience associated with running a sleep machine on my Echo is nowhere near worth the vastly increased cost.
This particular app will play your favorite sleep sound whether it's rain storms thunderstorms ocean sounds and it will play all night until you tell it to stop unlike other apps for the same type thing. The sounds are rich and realistic. They help me sleep well.
This is the best of the Sleep Sounds skills. All the great tracks they have with an index. It's much easier to just launch this one and pick what you feel like, instead of enabling and launching each separately. Also, as new ones come out you get the list automatically.
5.0 out of 5 starsGreat assortment of quality sounds!

This is a great app to have on the Echo! The sounds are high quality, do not appear to have a short loop sequence, and the trigger commands are easy to use and remember. The sleep setting is quite handy as well. I do wish some sirens were audible in the City option, but it's possible I didn't hear them.
I'd love a campfire/outdoors option in the future.
