5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome unit, step up from smaller Show 5

I imported 2x Echo Show 8's from UK. They are awesome displays for family photos, audio is x10 better and are otherwise identical to the smaller Show5's. Yes, the clock display cant be set to full screen. Minor grumble.
This is the perfect size for the kitchen and fits next to a competitors device, very responsive in the kitchen on an island bench when in front of the unit and even from the rear when in the living area. In terms of sound it is very good for the space and as it is added with accompanying Sony Sound bar in the living area the sound can be lower and still be good for the room space (an apartment open living). Only thing i would note is I purchased without the stand originally, however i was concerned liquid may spill on it, so i did purchase of the accompanying stand.
I find the echo show quite good. The sound to me is almost on par with my 2nd generation echo. The screen is useful to check smart cameras, reminders and calendar. However I would prefer it having more options to customise. One thing I particularly don’t like is “tips” and “try alexa”, would like the option to have it turned off without affecting my continuous rotation. The other thing is the clock, would’ve prefer if its much bigger and take more than like 1/8th of the screen.
Brought it on pre order at so called 1/2 price "that's all it's worth". You can only watch prime video all other streaming services like Netfix, stan and Disney are not allowed ??? I have had to do a full factory reset in the first month as all it would tell me was "something went wrong" and would no nothing I asked. It also does not pick your voice up anywhere near as good as the echo dot 3 that it replaced and even though it's in the same room as the WIFI router it shows the orange connection issue bar several times a day. Sound is ok on par with the dot but with more bass nothing to make you go wow over, nice and clear fo my audio books. Does everything the dot can do plus prime video scrolling pictures, weather updates and clock. As Amazon search is nowhere near Google's, the fact they block Netflix and others plus a lot of the features that work in the USA don't work here in Australia means its gimped at the get go and time will only tell? Web browsing is also awful again using their own limited silk browser or a butched firefox . According to reports this device is running on Android, why would you cripple the useability by locking down and limit what could actually achieved by this device, it should be able to do everything a tablet can do and more? In the end it's an ok device at $120 whilst being crippled by blocking certain things, do not pay full price it is not worth that amount of money.
Bought this for it clock capabilities. Disappointed that there is no option to make clock display bigger or for to change format of clock as the Echo 5 does brilliantly. Echo 8 has goodsound from speaker.
I bought an echo show 8 via pre-order. The size of screen is just right and the sound is also good. However the connectivity is a huge dissappointment. I bought it for my office. Somehow it does not support WPA/WPA2 Enterprise Wifi, which blocks me to use it in my office. I can only use mobile hotspot to connect. It would be understandable if it were an echo dot or echo because they do not have a screen for setup. For an echo show, you can easily set a connection on the screen. What a pity!
So far so good, waiting on my mother and sister to receive theirs to make use of video calling feature (which was my main reason for purchase, they live on the other side of the world) as long as that goes well I won’t have too many ill things to say. Sound quality is amazzzing very loud, better than I expected. Only thing that would be better is if more video/tv streaming services could be downloaded. Looks like I can only use Netflix or YouTube and that’s with logging in through the browser. I am in Australia where Stan is a bit more popular and I also pay for Disney on my tv so having these services available on the device would definitely make it that much better.
I got one at the introductory pre-order price and I have been awed by just how good this is. The sound is very very good quality for the size and the display is crisp and detailed. I don't see how you could get a better unit for the price. With Amazon Music you get lyrics display for songs, which is also handy. Alexa works flawlessly and also makes visual recommendations when idle, which have taught me more things that the speaker can do. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for a mid size smart display speaker.
Been trough the whole range. Echo Dot, Echo, Echo 2nd gen and been thinking about the Echo Studio. Jumped at the intro offer bought two Echo Show 8 with stand. The best thing I ever done. Goodsound, great experience having Alexa communicating additionally through the display. Great and good value. "I just love it!"
